Well this household is dealing with one less cockerel today. I just got back from Avenue Farm and Feed who agreed to take my last Easter Egger boy and find a new home for him. Whether that home looks like a stew pot or not is none of my business now.
He wasn't agressive, but he wasn't exactly tame since he'd been broody raised and she wouldn't let me near her chicks. DH had been very sweet and patient with him and the incessant crowing coming form the garage underneath our bedroom starting at 5 AM every morning. But when I went outside this morning and saw 4 of my girls with wet and dirty backs - I knew it was time for him to find a new place to live. The girls are enough of a mess with the rain and mud without some boy tussling with them!
Truthfully though - if we lived somewhere I could have roosters and we had enough space that they wouldn't bother the neighbors, I'd love to have a couple for breeding my favorites. Just wasn't meant to be right now.
