I was told by an old cantankerous poultry person (?) to get my humidity to at least 67% at day ONE, and keep it there the entire time.
They SWEAR that upping the humidity on lockdown is way too late & the baby is too dry & sticky to turn (and so cannot zip)
So I run mine at 67-70% from day one & have no sticky issues ever.
I can open & close the bator & the most % I loose is 5-6% (so it may drop to 57-60%)
They said a smarty pants thing that stuck with me:::
(And made me feel very stupid when I said I RAN on 35-50% and upped to under 70% at lockdown)
he said "Really ?
As if a hen turns up her humidity knob on day 17 ???"
Now That I am thinking like a hen, hatches have been alot better.
hens DO get off the nest daily, up to 30 minutes at a time, this fresh air & lack of humidity is essential (he says) to the egg "breathing" and letting go of too much moisture.
Note: This old cranky dude HATES the new digital incubators.
Babies get too little moisture & no air daily.
he advises to "think like the hen does, do as she does"
May help you in the future.
Sorry Tamara !!!

Thanks CL!!! I actually tend to use the dry hatch method and keep my humidity lower during the first 17 days. When I did it higher than 50%, I was having none or very few hatch. With the lower humidty, I was having a much higher hatch rate. Until now. So who knows? I just know this hatch was all messed up when that stupid Brinsea broke so I didn't have my hatcher as I had planned. And no, I haven't called them yet. I wanted to cool down first. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe member pages are the same as articles (to use)

To start a new one
Click on Learning Center in the brown bar at top.
Click on members pages just above the 3 chicks
There's a blue button called "create a members page" or something like that, on the left.

Here are instructions:

Imp- Good luck

ETA- To find yours go to your profile, Scroll down to the 4 boxes
Breeds, Forum, Articles, and Profiles. It is in the list below that.
Easier to find if you unclick (turn off the green dot) on everything EXCEPT Articles.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Imp, with your help and CR I found them.
CL how did you get the coop on your part? Thats what Id also like to have..

So I could really use some positive thoughts on my BLRW / Marans hatch which is supposed to be today. So far, I have 1 BLRW hatched, but he was completely shrink wrapped, as are the other two that had pipped. All three pipped, and that was as far as they got. I think doing the staggered hatch and having to reach in there to take out the Seramas has messed up this hatch. Besides these 3, I don't see any other pips. And I have attempted to help these other two a little bit. One I think will be fine as he has been trying SOOOOOO Hard, his little egg has been jumping up in the carton all morning, but no success after his pip, but he sure seems full of energy. I helped a little shell off, moistened up the membrane and I think he'll be ok. The other one I helped, was completely shrink wrapped too, but when I took off some shell and wet the membrane, it's still full of red veins, so I left it alone when I saw that other than moistening it up. At this point, I'll just be thankful if these 3 make it!!! Stressed out hatching momma here!!!!! I think it's time for a glass of wine while I start dinner. ...............sigh.

This part is sooo hard!! Good luck.

Trying hard to get moving/keep moving today: spent way too much of yesterday lifting more than I should and my hips are killing me.

On the other hand, I haven't done a full-dose NSAID day since I stopped eating peanutbutter for breakfast and had my GI problems vanish, so here goes!

So do you think the GI problems were the Peanut Butter, or the NSAIDs ?

NSAIDs are notorious for causing GI problems.

I have been having horrible GI issues last week or so

yes you can.... and no such thing as IBS... bullpuckey diagnosis for when they dont really care or are not interested in a true diagnosis. bowels dont just decide to be irritated, there has to be a cause. JMO :)

There is a gene for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It runs in my family. I have had much less trouble since I started eating more fruits vegetables and whole grains.

according to every GI doc I have ever been to, its a lame duck diagnosis. doesnt exist. whats the gene called? I want to google it. they label every gut problem with IBS and its usually something else. not doubting you, just want proof .

Fewer simple carbohydrates.

What about dairy ?
I have issues with too much fiber, but a little is necessary....same with dairy.
I was almost thinking tomatoes seem to be irritating me lately, and if that is the case, I will slit my throat............how can you live without tomatoes ?
Dh pulled a funny & said maybe I am developing an allergy to chicken HAHA...no way !

IBD peeps have problems with dairy and tomatoes, acid in the maters irritate the inflammed lining. BUT everyone is individual, I can eat tomatoes baked on a pizza, or cooked down in say tortilla soup, but straight tomato soup affects me. have not decided if its the tomato or the msg in the canned soup. I can also do most dairy, although ice cream gives me a gut ache, I eat it anyway

Cool down about the turning arm (months ago) that popped the lid open, or about what it is doing now?

CL crohns peeps should not eat high fiber food. it causes lots of problems. low residue diet for most of us. whats normal fiber intake for everyone else is to much for most of us. no fresh fruits and veggies, and anything in the cabbage family can bring serious pain. one bowl of oatmeal can send me to the floor . Maybe you should get tested for Crohns...

Okay wanted to share a photo. DH had just finished a bowl of cereal and there was some milk with cereal goodies in the bottom. I gave it to Bumble to have a few mouthfuls. Here you can see that Pica (the dog) really would like her share - the dog did not get any, she gets enough treats...but I thought it was a funny photo.

Great photo!

No, I got the broken arm on it resolved last year. Now the fan isn't working. And I didn't fill out the warranty card so I'm sure they'll tell me I got it wet and it's my fault. I didn't, but I just suspect that is what I will hear. DH looked at it and couldn't get it going. Offered to try and replace the fan himself but I wanted to call them first.

Oh Ice Cream is my weakness !
I had Vanilla (GF) and our Strawberries on top last night (Thanks again to WA4-HPoultryMom gave me the best Strawberries !
DH had Strawberry shortcake.
My Step DD, (DH's youngest of 4 girls!) has issues with any fresh fruit or veg...it starts with instant itching IN the mouth, tongue, cheeks....then progresses to almost an athsma like issue, then a gut ache that lasts for days.
Cooked Brussels Sprouts is all she can eat.
I am not sure of other Brassica, don't think she has tried any other Brassica.
I warned her to start carrying a stick pen.....she is an anaphalactic accident waiting to happen.
After all this, I wonder if I should even attempt to raise bees........?
Have been stung by a yellow jacket 1X and it was BAD !!!!!!!!!!! For days !!!!!!!!!! Like my entire ARM was in severe pain (stung on the finger)
Bees have a different venom...but fooling around with the immunal system is not a good thing to do~
I may have to gift all my bee stuff.........
