Aw, soooo cute!

I am still trying to find a new home for my original 4 Lav Orps, do you know of someone? I have a trio that is the 2nd generation and need the Lav's gone before I can breed them for the 3rd generation!!! Haven't relisted them on CL in awhile though.

Are those the babies I brought to you from Backyard farm ?
What is the issue with them/fertility ?
Have you asked Marc if he has the same issues/Monica/?

I am listening to "Ahe Lau Makani" tribute to the queen......Hawaiian music...as I often do given my baby brother is big in HOT (Hawaiian Ocean Transport)...and he has hooked me on so many Hawaiian Groups~~~~~~~~~~
OK I guess I will go listen to my HOT music & talk to ya all later~~~~~~GOOD LUCK TO TAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definently NOT fertility! They are very fertile! This is a project bird/variety. I am working on improving the type of them, as it is poor. So my first step in that was crossing them to my black English Orps. So I have those babies which are grown now, black split for lavender trio. I just don't have the room to keep every generation of these as I breed them over and over. So no issues with them per sey, just with my limited space. They lay very well too.

Monicas doesn't have the Orps, she has the lav am's. I think Mark got out of them and went to cuckoo marans, when he realized how much work they needed as a project.

And yes, they are some of the babies you brought me, along with Baxter and his girls, my English Orps.

Marc did mention to me last year he wanted birds...in the fall & I e-mailed him til the button fell off my key board that the birds he ordered were ready..................No response.
Oh well, I figure if he really wanted them, he would have hollared at me "wheres my birds?" so once again I was stuck with birds no one showed up for............
Later peeps !
Sleep tight !

I was told by an old cantankerous poultry person (?) to get my humidity to at least 67% at day ONE, and keep it there the entire time.
They SWEAR that upping the humidity on lockdown is way too late & the baby is too dry & sticky to turn (and so cannot zip)
So I run mine at 67-70% from day one & have no sticky issues ever.
I can open & close the bator & the most % I loose is 5-6% (so it may drop to 57-60%)
They said a smarty pants thing that stuck with me:::
(And made me feel very stupid when I said I RAN on 35-50% and upped to under 70% at lockdown)
he said "Really ?
As if a hen turns up her humidity knob on day 17 ???"
Now That I am thinking like a hen, hatches have been alot better.
hens DO get off the nest daily, up to 30 minutes at a time, this fresh air & lack of humidity is essential (he says) to the egg "breathing" and letting go of too much moisture.
Note: This old cranky dude HATES the new digital incubators.
Babies get too little moisture & no air daily.
he advises to "think like the hen does, do as she does"
May help you in the future.
Sorry Tamara !!!

This makes a lot of sense to me...Hmmmmm...worth trying. So Chickie...what do you do? Do you open up your incubator every day? and let it breathe? Or still remain keeping it closed? Give us the details to better hatching....PLEASE.

I need to make you one of my home made PERFECT incubators...no digital, T-storms & power surges will never be of issue.
No digital poop to mess with...as long as you have the "I can't believe it's not butter" container (

)
and that gets it to 55% and the smaller oyster quart gets it to 65-67% !!
hey it works GOOD!!!!!!!!

Hey, make me one. I would love to have one.

We just finished dinner and I got very good reviews on this dinner again, Cajun Chicken Pasta. Second time I've made it, so thought I would share!

My 2nd BLRW, the one who was jumping all over still in his egg, has hatched. The two that have hatched, both have GINORMOUS feet, thinking they are both roo's. They are also very very dark, which I am thrilled about! Waiting until they dry off completely to take pics.

mmmm mmmmm mmmm, eating it now with a few changes. I used little rock shrimp and blackened those, I had only sweet yellow onions and red bell peppers, so I used those. I did have the garlic and roams so I put them in as in the recipe. Near the end I chopped up some chard and added it for color. I used vermouth and I found some half and half as I did not have cream. Sauce did not really thicken, but it is tasty! I was a bit heavy handed with the cayenne, so my face is flushed and my nose is running. DS loves it. DD and DH won't try it, so they are looking in the pantry for more peanutbutter.
