Eeeep!!!! I have babies!!!!

They were not there yesterday afternoon, but they were there later this morning! I had 5 hatch, and they all got out of the box and under it. The other broody hen got off her clutch and crawled under there, but accidentally stepped on 2 of them. I was going to keep them in the coop, but I decided after finding the 2, I didn't want to risk it. Thankfully, I have a spare 40 gal tank, and a spare mounted heat lamp. I now have them set up in the spare room.

I'm not sure what they are, but they're all the same (though one has white on it's wings). None of the eggs in the one box were hatched, and the other hen is impossible to wedge out of her box (and I don't want to risk it if there's little ones hiding under her.) I'm looking at photos of chicks on feathersite... they may be the guineas. I'm hoping my welsummer, NHR, and Spizhaubens hatch.

But

!!!

(now how am I going to break it to DH that we've got babies?)

Edit: after looking at the photos, I'm mostly sure they're guineas.

I am Rachel, and I am in Olympia! (About 60mi south of Seattle, your state capitol everyone!) I don't actually have chickens yet, but I'll be getting 3 Barred Plymouth Rocks by this weekend! I just wanted to say hi and thank you to everyone who posts! This site has been incredibly helpful in learning all I need to know about having chickens!

I recently saw a new member (MichMoo) who turns out to be a neighbor just ~3 blocks away from me. He told me that he recently saw a chicken tractor in another neighbor's yard.

I think there's a massive secret society of chicken owners in Tacoma. I'm trying to convert my friends. If I can convert someone, aren't I guaranteed a place in The Eternal Chicken Coop?

Any ideas I can use to break the ice with this neighbor... Besides knocking on their door and asking, "Hey, have you ever heard of BYC?"

Oh and I do have some young birds I'd be willing to trade!

Oh I also have a pair of black cayugas for sale, as well. Or trade. They were hatched in May.

Terry's Berries on River Road in Puyallup is looking for a new home for a "sweet rooster". Apparently he broke his leg but is healing nicely. I neglected to find out what he is.

Terry's Berries is the same place I went a while back & found a hen in their produce store. The clerk, exasperated with the bird, shooed it outside and said to me, "They just want such a relationship!!" Still cracks me up how she rolled her eyes and emphasized the long A in 'relationship'.

Edited to correct business name
