We are still looking at breeds. We need a hardy one, but with some personality. For our first few, we want to succeed rather than be sad if they were not a hardy breed. We also want 2 ducks. I raised them some time ago and loved it. Our concerns here are predators that prior owners who also had ducks dealt with a lot and stopped having ducks because of it. But we do plan on enclosing their area tight and will roam when we are out there. Plus with our dogs, we hope predators will stand down. I just want to be sure of restrictions for location in the yard etc, how many birds are allowed. Since we are out of city limits, I think we have more options. But, certainly do not want to disturb neighbors. We may end up at the local feed store to pick up our first few. Unless there is a breeder out this way. Very excited to get them.

all I can say is -- my EEs are definitely hardy

no supplemental heat at all during this latest cold spell (no electricity either)
no frostbite -- and they DID keep laying

small coop (4x4x4) for the seven of them, they all made it onto the 2x4 crossways roost, snuggled up together; stayed pretty warm in there even during days when we had the pop door open ... and they were out in the run almost every day even with frost on the ground

they aren't lap sitters or snugglers, but when they are free ranging they tend to cluster around where we are sitting or working in the yard ... and they mutter and natter at us

I haven't had any predator problems; the Siamese-ancestry cat and barking gotta-chase-everything dog seem to keep them well away .. but it's pretty rural around here, predators have easier pickings with the wild brown hares, mice, voles, sparrows, and other small pests in the pastures, forests, and overgrown lots

Yes the new BYC is glitchy.
The only other thing I can suggest is that I deliberately made the forums narrow, then I increased the browser zoom to 200%. Makes the forums the full width of the screen, and doubled the font size. It made it much easier for me to read. I do have have to scroll side to side for a couple things, and it scrunches some of the buttons together, but it is so much better.

Rainwolf and I ordered seeds, and we swapped so either of us did not over order like last year.

barely took an hour....
It was just as I said, no party, no goodies.
FlyRobinFly came as she had egg cartons for me as I am trading her 2 pullets for (when she gets back from holiday)
And I had to stop by Vino Aquino first to get the wine for my parents, I was not at RW long.
had to leave fast to go back south to Mom & dad's & deliver the wine...
AND THEY LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barely got back in time to feed the dog...et all.............trying to make dinner & am exhausted !
Too late to collect eggs~~~~~~~~~~~

You certainly had a busy day! Glad your parents loved their personalized bottles of wine. It's a fun gift to give, isn't it? I hope my cousin Rich treated you well at the shop!

Hey, I did notice all the annoying articles are gone from the right side!! Yeaaa!!! Other than that, I haven't been having many issues with byc. What is the upgraded IE 9?? Sorry not a computer geek!

Don't feel bad! I'm 20 minutes from Danas wine store. I probably won't be going to Monroe show and if I had thought about it (or had an invite) I could have met Chickie there with about 60 feed sacks or even just stood on the side of the freeway waving them as she drove by. They are all over the place here and driving me crazy! so they will most likely end up in recycling at the feed store. Besides, I haven't been folding them on the crease so she might not want them anyway! LOL

So Chickie, let me know if you come back up this way in the next week otherwise I've got to get rid of them. Would you mind if they are not creased? I started to do that but I'm usually in a hurry and it took too long so gave up. Or maybe I can drop them off with someone (SOON) who is going to Monroe and they can give them to you if you want them.

I knew you were in Gig Harbor but had no idea you were that close.
But seriously...we had so many stops and still not enough time !
I needed to hit the Health Food Store & did not get to that either.
