That two tone one might be a dark Brahma (which is also pencil laced but is called a dark in this breed). Does it have a regular single comb or a pea comb? If pea comb, it's the dark brahma. They are also feather legged, but not as heavily as the cochins.
Here are better pictures. I have Storey's Guide, and they only show rooster combs. Her name is Sookie.

Thanks Stump.

In case anyone else is interested I did my own research and here is what I came up with.

A mild La Nina is still with us. The latest observation of the ocean temps used to determine this are -1.1 c. The 3 month average is -0.8. Anything colder than -0.5 is considered La Nina. La Nina has mostly shown her face in the extreme north. Alaska has had 328 inches of snow which is 10' above normal and the Yukon is having a record -66*. It has been so cold in the Northern areas that the Black Sea has frozen most of the Romanian coast.

Something called the Arctic Oscillation is trapping the jet stream up north but has recently changed from a positive to a negative which means the jet stream should start dipping south. But another phenomena called the North Atlantic Oscillation is staying positive which keeps the cold away. Ninety percent of the time the Arctic and the N Atlantic Oscillation are in sync but not this time.

Soooo, La Nina is still here through at least mid spring, it's just staying north of the U.S. for now.

I was confused when they were still talking about this being a La Nina winter when the Pacific Surface temps were still pretty high in October, and nobody has mentioned anything about it at all lately.
So I dunno- haven't looked at the Pacific Ocean Buoys temperatures lately, and can't remember where I found that information before (It's not in open access on the NOAA site, as for as I remember).
The only thing I know right now is that we are back to the same air circulation pattern we had in early January, and I'll be fine with that; the day's are finally long enough that I can fit some construction time into my day. I got a chunk of cage wire up on the Hamburg extension today, W00T!

Frank, Sooo sorry about Sampson. He was such a neat bird. You should have told me sooner. I just sent a Coro roo to my roo guy to be resold for food!

You got more than 2 hens from me didn't you? I thought you got 3 hens then you came back and got some youngins.

Yes, I originally bought a quad from you, then I bought 2 pullets. The hawks or hawk were/was killing me at the time Sampson was taken. I have only 2 or the original hens from the quad left. They are locked up so the hawks can't get them. One is locked in with the Lemons and one is locked in with the Lavenders.

I just had a young blue wyandotte pullet snatched by a Cooper hawk day before yesterday. The wyandottes are the only ones free ranging at this time.

My Lemons and blacks are laying now and my Lavs have one of the roosters starting to crow so should lay in a month or so.

I haven't tested fertility or tried to incubate anything. Haven't had time to set up the incubator. Its still packed in the boxes from when I bought it.

Frank

Hopefully, I'll get moving this spring.

Good morning everyone!

Never ever let your Sebs loose with a full creek near by! You will have to chase them down! I learned the hard way today. lol

its for a friend, and I think they want one to eat... I dont eat goat lol. do you know anyone that has boers?

I do know a few people, I'll ask if they have anything to eat. One shows so sure you dont want to pay that.

I refuse to answer that question!

Hey, are you getting fertile Coro eggs? and selling them?

I have a Coro pair if you want I can start getting eggs and see if they are fert. Also I want to sell all of mine pm me if you want a new rooster and hens..

CL Sorry but I really don't know how I found what version of IE I have. I do know that you can go to Micro soft and it will scan and tell you along with allow ya to up date.

On a side note I was very saddened to hear about the 2 little Powell boys. My deepest sympathies to the family.

I know CR it broke my heart when my husband came running up to me and told me what happend. I feel so bad for all that family that is left.. ( Not the Dad in jail even thou Im sure he didnt want that to happen to his grandsons)

Well I think that I am fairly caught up with the thread. I have been busy with yard work. DH and I managed to cut down a very large tree for our neighbor. By time we got the tree down, we had 5 neighbors out 9 helping us. Today I managed to get the rest of the leaves mulched up and in the compost bin. I cut the weeping birch down to just the trunk. It may survive, but who knows. It fell over in the ice storm. There was no way to tip the tree back up with the weight of the branches. So who knows what will become of my tree.

I am wiped out with all the work around here. The puppies are now toddling around the house. They started to walk about 4 days ago. We are now in full Yorkie shuffling mode. There are 4 boys and one very tiny little girl. We are going to keep her. I named her Bubbles. One of the boys is much larger than his sister, so he got named Tank. I am waiting to name the other boys, until I can tell them apart. They all look like mini Rottweilers. They are now a month old today.

If one goes missing dont look at me.

Wow..I did not think this would come through....but here ya go, all us kids again in the tub after a day at Half Moon bay while our Dads surf fished for Stripers...we lived hunting & fishing & we grew up together.
Left to right: DH's big sis , then my little sis, then DH, then me.
My Dad says if ya look close enough, you can tell DH & I were in love even way back then...........HA!

DH's big sister did not want anyone to see her "buttons" hence the posture !!!!!!!!
And there was loads of sand in the tub afterwards !!

!

I just love this picture. Now if you did that with kids youd have the law all over you.. My first husband wouldnt let me let or son run around outside naked when he was like 1-2 years old. Of course that guy wouldnt let me dress him in anything that was red said it was a girl color..

Love them....

Welcome to all the newbies!

I have fallen behind, and quite frankly dont have the energy to sit on my butt and read through some 100 pages or more.

Thought I would let you all know that I am still alive and healthy. Baby is healthy and kickin the crud out'ta me. I dont have a whole lot to contribute to the thread so Ive been a random lurker. I am SO very ready for a day off, havn't had one in over 400 days, yes I do keep track. Im definately slowing down in the third trimester.

The past two weeks have been incredibly busy with horse injuries. First it was my cousins mare, she stepped on a nasty rusty 16-p nail, went right through the soft tissue of her heal. entered through the frog and almost penetrated out the top of her heal. Luckily it managed to miss all the ligaments and tendons, so just a nasty wound that needed flushing twice daily. That was almost a trip out to Pillchuck.

THEN last week one of the gedings at the barn I manage, somehow managed to step on his sheath and rip a 2" flap open on the inner sheath... Had the vet out, got both topical and feed through meds, and now I get to scrub the poor guys privates and apply topical antibiotics every day. Yeay for me. But luckily the geding is sweet as can be and very easy going.

This past Saturday was a big day for my little mare. She turned 3 and went on her first trail ride! And 1st ride over 20 minutes long! This little mare is awsome! Im sending her away for training hopefuly on March 1st! Oh by the way she did great on her first trail ride, acted like she's been doing it her entire life!

My flock has finally started laying again, BUT the wheaten ameraucanas still arent laying. I have all but given up on them. They are all happy but frustrated about being locked up in their coop/run. The coyotes out here are already popping out pups, we are gonna have another pack of over 25 this year again. I REALLY wish my neighbor would quit feeding the pack! Stupid women buys 4-5 whole turkeys a week and leaves them laying out along her property line for the coyotes. Animal control says there is nothing they can do about it, the lady doesnt care that she is endangering my child and livestock, let alone her own pets!!!

THEN my other neighbors seem to think its cute to have a family of 6 raccoons living under there deck, and yes they feed the coons.

Stupid neighbors, but at the same time they are great people, just not always too bright.

OH!!! We finally figured out what happened to our artisian spring fed creek. It changed course by about 100 feet. It now runs under the road through the middle of my mothers pasture, and is currently flooding our neighbors property. We had to have the county out 3 weeks ago, as the roadway is starting to visibly crack/sink! My mothers pasture is now a swamp, I almost got stuck in 2 feet of mud just trying to wak across it. My nephew walked out there, and keep in mind he weighs around 130lb and he sunk in past his knees! There is now a knee high mud boot stuck about 2-3 feet in the muck. When a standard pickup truck drives over the road, you can watch little fountains of water shoot out of the ground by about 6-8" Thats how bad it is getting, even with the dry weather we have had over the past week. I am not sure what we can do about it. But the county has placed a work order to tear up the road and at least put in a culvert to stableize the roadway. What a mess!

Ok enough about my life.

How have you all been?

Ok so I was on Craigs list and under free they have crates again. Im going to try and get one that is if no one on here takes them all.

Have a good day going to get the work done than head back to work...
