I make mine loose. With their toes so far spread apart they dont fall off. Then I cut them right at the clip so they dont scratch. I then take the end and put it in a note book and write down info about that hen... hatch date where I got her when she started layin and all that jazz. I hope it works for you.

This may mean buying a different car, because he doesn't match the sand colored car at all. I wonder what DH would say to that? My car is now paid for and DH wants a pick-up truck. I guess then it's a black truck, and the dog can always ride in that.

My car should be cleaner that way.

Since your car is paid for, why not trade it in on a spiffy new black one ?

do you have worry about them getting too tight??

If you put them on a chick, you WILL have to cut them off & add a bigger one after the bird grows, until they are full grown.

i use the color zip ties on full grown birds... since as chickie said if they grow you have to replace as they grow...
I've started using a toe punch for chicks and that works wonderfully but they does not help to visually see the difference between 2 look alikes.
I use toe punch to tell pures from mixes and zip tie bands to tell em apart as adults.

Chickielady is right. If you put them on as chicks you will have to check them often because they grow fast. I didnt put ties on my girls until they lay.

That SF rooster is so handsome. We live in the city so technically we can't have a rooster, but I am not sure I would ever be able to give up a SF rooster. The beard is just too good. <3

you could crate him at night till after 9am and if your neighbors are kewl let him out in day lock him in garage/basement/sound blocked area at night
