Quote: Well I guess I cain't make it cause I ain't got no white eggers.
I would not call my B Am's calm or friendly. but the RIR I think most who have them would tell you the same thing they are very calm and pretty friendly. I think ya musta shooked the eggs and made em all mad.Ok, so just a testament to the wonderful disposition of Buckeyes. I was talking to my peeps and stuck my hand down and cupped it, and guess who was the first to jump up IN my hand?? A buckeye!!!![]()
So then, when one buckeye saw it then the rest started doing it so I had buckeye chicks jumping in and out of my hand!! LOL
The RIR's started a little and guess who were the most stuck up and "chicken"???![]()
the BLRW crosses!! LOL!!!![]()
I have wanted Buckeyes since I first came on here and saw the CL had them!! Thank you CL!!!!![]()
I think the B RIR's and B AMs are cute, time will tell if they have the personality! CR's B RIR seemed very calm and cute, so I hope the babies turn out too!Although they were the first to run up at peck at me!! LOL!!!![]()
I do have acouple B AM's that are cry babies tho???LOL!![]()
Ok, Washingtonians, here's my story: We got chickens nearly a year ago, 7 chicks, assorted variety. They have been in a 32 sq ft run with an 8 sq ft coop attached. I know, way too small, but it was working out alright until some dogs got in a few weeks ago. Pippie(RIR) was killed, Fran(blk aus) and Red(RIR) were injured (we had to put Fran down), and Bettie(blk wyn) was missing, to subsequently turn up a few days later, hurt but walking. Sunny, Buttercup(both gld sxlnks), and Poo(blk wyn) were unhurt. We put Red and Bettie in a box in the house for a few days, but chickens smell really bad and do not belong in the kitchen, so we got some of that purple medicine on them and put them outside again. Red really only had a small bite and some missing feathers from her back, which had already grown back over. Bettie is hurt more seriously; looks like her back end got chewed on. Watched the girls for a few days and noticed that Sunny and Buttercup were pecking a lot, even on Poo, who was not hurt. I have been putting medicine on them twice daily, which helps for a little while but doesn't put them off for long. Red now has a big bald spot again with sores, and Poo is getting one to match. We don't have a separate place to put them, besides back in the house, so I took the box (actually a plastic storage tote) and put it in the run, put the 2 meanies in it, and used a screen weighted down for a lid. I didn't know what else to do. The daft things have already upset their food and water somehow (I used a cat dish that -can't- be knocked over). I'm worried they will peck each other to death in that thing. It seems like Buttercup was the ringleader, so maybe I'll let Sunny out and let the other one stew a few days. They both are very aggressive, even with me. I am just at a loss, and about to give up on this whole chicken thing entirely. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Just good for you they LOVE Whole wheat sandwich bread !!!!!!!!!!!Last Monday I bought 3 buckeyes and 3 Bl Javas from CLwhen I open the coop door the buckeyes come over to check me out the Javas stay a little farther away but are curious too![]()
