Yes they will try to recover expenses. And yes if you own property they will (so to speak) come after it. It's called spend down. However it is my understanding that if there is a surviving spouse they will not take anything until the spouse is gone or tries to sell.Please check out availabitlity of medicaide, it's a State run agentcy. I found them very helpful when my wife was in the nursing home. As it turned out my wife passed away b4 needing medicaide. Note; it really is not free if you own property. They told me they would come after any property and claim it to settle the debt if possible and they said it is the law. They have to. I don't know for sure, I'm just saying what was said to me.
