Woo...evening everyone. Fighting a loverly sinus infection/allergies today. Feel a sneeze comin, and it stops, backs up and lets the liquid squeeze out my eyes, a most excellent feeling indeed. We have been busy here, with the weather being nice the last few days, I went out to the garden, yes, with my bath towel hanky in tow, and planted broccoli, cauliflower and lettuce starts that were ready to go in the hoop house, added our organic slug bait, and will try to get them covered up tomorrow. The glass greenhouse is just chock a block full of starts, and I have 1200 onions that need to be planted before Saturday. :)

Marty, one of our buff orp girlies was almost gone the other day with a coyote. Rikke (DW) has been working on her daily to get the holes on the mend, the large tear on her back to start a healing, and the hole back by her vent closed up. She is doing well, and should be moved out into the larger brooder / apartment, I made for her in the garage. Going to go get some of that closed cell 1 1/2 inch foam sheeting to make sure she is warm out there. The cement floor would not be good for her to repair in. Made a mobile run for her to be in outside when one of us it out there with her, she seems to like being with the other girls, but, not being WITH them for her own safety. Rikke checked out Marty's leg today, it does not seem broken, she seems to think it is muscle or nerve damage that is not yet healed. Rikke seems to have a knack for taking care of the animals here, giving the goats, and the chickens their shots when needed, and when vitally necessary for them to heal. Pen-G makes a mess of a chicken's poo .. not like it isn't already messy. ;)

Here is a pic of Marty out in her mobile shelter, enjoying the outdoors.

Hope you feel better soon! Sorry to hear about your peeps!

I still think she is a very cute chicken! I love her colors and markings! do you think that because she kinda of looks like one it's a deterrent ?

I read up last night and from what I have heard from people its normal for EE to start laying late... sometimes up to 30 weeks... She was hatched in Mid September, So we are waiting... She is clearly a pullet and not a roo but my husband jokes and says she needs to earn her keep LOL )

Ugh I wish... My poor daughter comes home from school every day and goes straight to the coop to see if she has any eggs.... This past weeks shes like mom I give up.... I think she must be half boy or something because she is clearly not gonna lay any eggs. I really wanted them for Easter too..... She was gonna make some decorations with the colored egg shells.

SadiSue,
Was good to see you again. Asked my DH if I could go to the show,he said why not.. So Im going to ck the dates and rooms and see about it. He told me it would be good for me to get away and have some fun. I also need to see if I'll have anything hatching that weekend.

Hello fellow Washingtonians! I'm new to BYC and was so excited to find a washington thread, I'm in Yakima and we have easter eggers, BLRW and blue swedish ducks. We had a few other breeds but last year a dog wiped us almost clean out.

I'm hoping to attend lots of washington poultry events even if its just to go for fun, but eventually I'd love to show!

So Sorry to hear about the loss of most of your birds. I'll let you know that we all can help you out and get you up and running with lots more.. This is a great thread.

How would I go about getting someone to make something like this for me? Seems like it ought to be fairly easy if you have the right equipment. I'm trying to figure out where to put my chicks, and having something like this in the big coop eventually might help integrate them.

I can show the picture to my husband and son and see what they say about making one for you. The hardest part is the chicken wire around it..
