I might have missed it, how old are the goats when you dehorn them? If I have to dehorn my calves they are done by or before 3 months of age. My brother and I can't hold them down or keep control of them in the head gate otherwise. I used to pay the vet to do that but learned how to do it and go over my fear of hurting them at school. Saves me at least one trip from the vet a year. I help some friends east of the mountains dehorn on a small ranch and there calves are 1 to 4 months. Sometimes the older ones really get the chute rocking! Just more farm excitement!

my goat kids are a week or less, its when we feel the buds and know they are strong.

Are you using the burn method or the cut out. See with goats I always did the burn and it was done when the bud broke through the skin. Typically 2-4 weeks. Don't to want to do it too early as the skull is still too thin and there is some lethal risk but don't want to wait too long or the iron won't fit over.

OH CR I dont do it my girlfriend does. I stand out of the way and cry most of the time

. I did give one a bottle and he drank it down as they did it.
I hold them in my lap wrapped in a towel (being scared can cause them to loose, uh, bodily control) while my mom or the vet does the deed. And then I cry.

Does anybody else give them baby asprin before the disbudding?

Yep, thinking it looks like mycotoxins.

I am going to be in contact with the State Lab today.

oh man!! That's crap!! I had a gal from Goldendale come down and buy some Muscovy hens from me and she told me she would NEVER again feed any Purina or Pay Back feed, cause she had rabbits and I guess some Purina rabbit chow was tainted or something and she and quite a few people around Wa and Or lost most of there stock!! That's too bad, a company like that should know better!!
