I won't call animal control. I don't want to make enemies of these neighbors. I'm truly trying to find peaceful solutions. Besides that - I'm a chicken outlaw. Over my limit by about... 8 chickens. I don't need any chicken Gestapo knocking at my door. But my chickens aren't really bothering anyone.

And yes - you will LOVE your grandkids because they will be yours. They will be the cutest, smartest, funniest grandkids ever!

I always wondered how it happened and now I know. I have finally become the cranky old woman in the neighborhood.

No, you're not the cranky old woman. It's infuriating that you and your family (including the dogs and chickens) cannot relax and enjoy your own yard because other people can't see fit to supervise their kids or critters. You don't need the neighbor dogs teaching yours to fence fight, and cause all sorts of ruckus and stress. I feel for you and wish I had a solution.

Ohhh Dawn, hard plastic garden edges... that sounds like another good idea to create an extra barrier. Thank you! The ground is still soft enough there that we should be able to get them in easily, then lay poultry wire, timbers, rocks, whatever to toughen up our side of the fence.
I knew venting to the right people would be productive!

And yes, it would be nice to live in the middle of many acres. I dream of it sometimes - but with good family all about 10 minutes away and the convenience of the city and theater and all that comes along with it - I guess we make our choices. Just have to find creative ways to make it work!

Thanks,
Have you ever tried to talking to them? It might be on deaf ears but just a thought. Like hay I know you saved that dog hear is a good place to take her to be trained.

So, on a happier note, I just got home from my parent's house where we gathered to dye 3 dozen of my chickens' eggs with my teenaged nieces. I love those girls, especially for teenagers - they're all pretty special. (I have a sweet nephew too but he missed out because he was at a sleepover). We dyed BCM eggs, Ameraucana and Araucana eggs, the Salmon Faverolles and Light Sussex. I had picked up some of the Wilton paste gels that someone elsewhere in the forum had suggested using and I am thrilled with how they turned out! The combination of colors from the natural hues of the eggs with the intensity of the Wilton dyes were so much fun to play with! We decided they were pretty enough as they were and not to decorate them with anything else or put anyone's names on them. There are enough we'll just let folks pick out their own after Easter dinner on Sunday.
Just had to share - the colors made me so happy!

OH I love them. I was trying to get my boys, 28 and 21 to do this with me this year. NOPE they both said.. So I will see if I just do it my self.
How did you mix the dye?

Okay, I too have had similar problems/issues. Some I am still dealing with and unfortunately...I am one of them with a barking dog. We even have a bark collar for her. My daughter and neighbor kids were trying toplay through the fence...MY DOG would not shut up. I finally kenneled her. Man she made me mad.

Anyway, I used to walk 3-5 miles regularly. I had a couple sets of dogs that would bum-rush their fences and bark hysterically at me. I started giving them a "cookie" or cracker. It finally got that they would be "watching" for me coming down the road and no more fench rushing and barking. They became my friends.

NO - I am in NO WAY saying that this is the answer to your problems....but worth a try? Iam the cranky lady in my area. LOL. But maybe making friends with the dogs might help some (I doubt all - but maybe a little). Now the kid - tell her to shut up and leave you alone....wow, sorry...that is me talking to my kids (not really - how horrible do you think I am? sheesh).....I dunno. short of having a kid for her to talk to or give her a doggie cracker too...I kind of like the hot wire fence idea myself. (oh you people must think I am horrible).
