Sold my first 2 chicks this morning. Got on facebook and read that one had passed already at her new house. The lady says they were chirping alot when she put them in the new brooder. She thought it was stress from the car ride. Or they got to cold from the transfer from my brooder to hers. They were sleeping quite contently when I had them at the church (pick up point). I am guessing her brooder was to cold or the chick got bullied from one of the slightly older chicks she had. 1 1/2 week older orpingtons.
The chicks were a week old. Should I wait till the chicks are older before selling them next time?
(reposting this) I think it got lost.
Sorry I missed this earlier. No, you don't need to wait until later to sell them. It's just the luck of the draw. Some chicks die. Not much you can do about it. You'll never know if it was stress, too cold, bullied, genetically messed up, ill, or whatever. It could have died at your house just as well. I've had chicks look fine, and two hours later go check and one is gone......so you never know!
