Does anyone have Barred Rocks? I think one of my 7 barred rock cockerels may in fact be a pullet but I am not sure.... The first pic is the one in question. The Second pic he/she is the closest one on the end and the last one is a Roo who is tryin to mount my hens and crow....

Actually I saw a video about Barred Rocks, which I did with ours even at 2 weeks of age.... The Breeder / Chicken industry guy said that -- Barred Rocks are easy to sex even a fairly early age... The males have lighter legs - while the females have darker legs- as well as a brighter spot on the top of their head...like for instance the pic above would be a Male - imo... The male in our group the legs look bout the same as this above pic, while the females have black/darker coloring on their feet & legs... found the Video ---- >

You DO know what hackle is, right ?
The long silky shiney feathers only males have on saddle & neck ?
Should be easy for you to see even at 2 mo of age.
Most male chicks have little feathering on their backs (except fluff) until the hackle emerges, they will sometimes be kinda bald until the hackle comes out.

Welcome =) I'm a newbie too I used to live down that way kinda (Graham).. I loved it over there =) You'll love the lil Barred's they are too cute in personality =) I bet the lil silkies & australorp are cute lil birds. Sadly we didnt get my mothers Silkies - tho we really dont need anymore birds...hahaha we have a full house as it is...lol

I never have either.... I just put I never had candled...

I just planted my bean seed, it is sure to rot in that weather !

Our weather report is saying nice weekend with showers in the morning , highs in the 60's and sun in the afternoon. My kid is off to a weekend Girl scout camp out in outdoor units. NO SNOW please.
