I use to homeschool one of my sons he is now 21.
So we all need to make a date and get together and talk chickens.

So my Cream Legbars only had one egg hatch go a cute little girl and of course the Sizzle did pretty good. I left the CL eggs in the incubator to see if they will hatch. Im not holding my breath. I will have a hatch again on the 6th of blue eggs but not the CL..
Oh I need to run and get stuff done around here have to go to work early..

Aww bummer but I'm glad you got one Legbar pullet at least...

Its been a while and I was about 80 pages behind. Trying to come on once a day to get caught up is really hard. There's a lot of stuff going on with my family and my life right now that it's almost impossible. Ended up with 30 total chicks, 26 chickens and 4 turkey chicks. They are all doing really well, although now they are outside, sheltered from wind and rain with heat lamps and such. Mental note: Don't try to raise chicks in a camper, unless it's like three, it won't turn out very well. Either way everything is going well. Working on a lot of things so I'll try to check in but if you want to respond, it might be better to send me a pm because like today, i don't have time to go through 80 pages because I gotsta go. I will talk to yall later.

I changed my name because the national agricultural statistics service sent me a survey that was required by law that I fill out. I don’t know why I got this mandatory survey but I feel it because I had used farm in my username. I am slowly changing everywhere I used ByNatureFarm to ByNatureHomstead but on BYC our usernames cannot be more than 15 characters long so ByN8urhomstead is what I am using here.

I got the same survey. And it was before I even decided to finally get chickens! I'm just a homeowner who 'happens' to live on 8 acres. I don't have a pasture, I don't have a barn. I didn't even have a pen until the week I decided to get chicks (back in February). I think they are picking out those with a certain amount of acreage and higher. I don't think it has anything to do with having a farm or not.

Well shoot. Since the weather won't cooperate I've been working on regaining some woodworking skills. Today I started on the entry door to the shed. All mortise and tenon jointery. Should finish it up tomorrow. (door is over-engineered for a shed door but rebuilding skills was the deal.) Ramp is complete, chicken door is in place and interior door and screening is in place. Tomorrow will also see the sheet-goods go down on the coop floor and the roosts put in place.
If this dang weather gives me a break I'll get the coop/shed primered in prep for the finish coat.
Still have wayyyy too much todo on this project but I see a light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope it isn't a fast freight coming at me.
Birdblocks are needed, facia boards need to go up and the corner trim. Not to mention the secure run I want to install.
The girls will be in the coop tomorrow night if things go well

Nah, it won't be done, but at least they'll be out and the run should be available and I'LL GET MY GARAGE/SHOP BACK!!
This chicken thingy is kicking this old man's butt, but hey, it keeps me off the street corniers and outta the bars.
