Wow! Another busy day on here.. The baby kitten is doing okay. Not as well as I would like, but she will be just fine. I have started her on a bottle, she is not eatting much from it, but is getting some, she is active when she is up and bright eyed and alert so that is good. She is just sooo darn skinny. And she is able to go potty on her own without stimulation! YAY!!!! And I have her using a litter box! Little Miss Luna is truly a doll!!

The chickens are soooo happy in their run outside! They had some greens today and just went crazy! Ha Ha! I put a stump out there for me to sit on and visit, and they just wander around me doing their thing... And my first chicken book came in today... The Complete Encyclopedia of Chickens! It is not to bad! I have a few more coming that I ordered off of Amazon..

Well wishes to all those having a hard time in their lives, and yay! to all those with with good things going on in their lives!!!!

We bought 2 of our chickens from a breeder in the Seattle area, our flock seemed fine for a about a week then they all started having runny beaks and coughing having trouble breathing. This didn't start till we got the ones from the breeder. From what we have found out they are Infectious Coryza carriers cause now we have to cull the whole flock. Looks like we are out of the chicken business for awhile cause we cant afford to replace our flock cause we put everything we had into the old flock.
that seriously sucks. Can't you give them a shot of antibiotic? that is just awful. I am so sorry.

Tonight my Lucy (Buff Orpington) would NOT be contained. I shut everyone in the coop and as the door closed she came flying out!

I had to walk around the yard cleaning up so she just followed me all over. It was adorable. She's such a chicken now too, no more peep peep peeps coming from her, it was Bok bok bok all evening while she wandered! Super funny! The neighbors' dogs came to the fence too and she wasn't happy. They were keeping her from the Salmonberry plant by the fence which she was delightfully picking clean before the dogs came. Then she kept challenging them and they seriously looked like they were gonna kill her; she didn't care! I love that girl! She's pretty cheeky, just like the real "I love Lucy"

You may want to get some replacement formula (feed store or vet office) then mix a little in with some baby (people) cereal. make it kind of runny. Start dipping her nose in it and let her lick it off her face. She will start getting the idea. Every now and then I have had to use a spoon and spoon feed babies, but they do catch on. She looks old enough to start eating off a plate, but she will have to learn how. DO NOT GIVE HER COW'S MILK. Cat's actually can not process the milk and it will give her a belly ache . Get the formula or get kitten chow and wet it down slightly. The best way to start though is with the baby cereal (I use rice) and mix in some formula. You probably should only have to do this for a few days/a week and keep kibbles out for her....she will start picking it up. Since she is so skinny, you really should do something like this every couple of hours to keep her energy/blood sugar up. If using a bottle...cut a small chunk off the top...do not just criss-cross. If you actually make a tiny hole it works better. I have bottle fed literally 100s of babies.

If you want I can come help you get started or show you how. Just let me know.
