Thunder boomers here, and now it is POURING! I just got done planting straberries, looked up and saw the thunderhead, walked into the house and BOOM! Chickens all made a mad dash for the coop! Just a few minutes earlier the skies were blue, sun was out, and it was warm!
This is too funny ! ! ! ! See just as I was reading this (6:35pm) we were ROCKED by thundaaaar ! SCERRRRT everybody in the house.

I have a broody that is sitting on eggs. I have a blue rooster over 1 black and 2 splash hens. Unfortunitly both my splashes are on strike. One is still raising my Cuckoo Marans she should start to lay again soon. And my other splash is my broody. I think there is some splash eggs under her. But I don't count my chicks till they hatch. She started sitting on them on the 15th.

We bought 2 of our chickens from a breeder in the Seattle area, our flock seemed fine for a about a week then they all started having runny beaks and coughing having trouble breathing. This didn't start till we got the ones from the breeder. From what we have found out they are Infectious Coryza carriers cause now we have to cull the whole flock. Looks like we are out of the chicken business for awhile cause we cant afford to replace our flock cause we put everything we had into the old flock.
That is terrible! So sorry.

I would have called the cops if I was bit not only once but twice.. that is unsafe for everyone. I am sorry but it would have been a dead dog.

Flash from the front, she wil be 7 weeks on sunday..

The hackles look pointed but in the next picture you will see them clearer

I lifted them up midway up her neck. She has a tricky pattern..

Her wings are held down a bit by my daughter, but there are no shiney feathers, and no color... Sooo VF please please tell me this really is a girl.. lol

Honestly, I did consider it. I could have hidden my chickens and called animal control. But I am trying hard to make things work here with the neighbors until that fence is up, maybe as soon as next week. DH and I have been here over 20 years and I don't want any horrifically ugly relations with neighbors. But what nearly did it for me was when I gestured to his 5 year old daughter and said, "what if Alexi had gotten bit?" And he said to me, "Oh SHE knows better".

I said, "Look, your dog was pushing my fence over by lunging on it - if he had leapt over the fence, my Golden would have defended me and his territory and it would have been a blood bath for all involved. Did you want me to let that happen while your daughter watched her dog and mine get torn apart?"

It's been peaceful this past 11 days since the incident. But I'll be talking to them this weekend to let them know I'm putting up a strong fence on my property and they had better keep their dogs in check and OFF of my fence from now on.
It bothers me that this is the dog they "rescued." But I also think these neighbors are somewhat transient - all of their situations seem unstable and I'm guessing they might not be living there too long. We'll see.
