Yep - it's me =) I make lotion bars a lot like those.

I also have some liquid soap to get to you - it turned out very nice! I just have no idea how to mail it =) Hopefully you're coming up to Ron's BBQ!
I have some of Dawn's lavender liquid soap and it smells amazing. I might not use it as soap but just sniff the bottle for aromatherapy!

That is what I use.  I think CR's point is to be sure that what ever fixture you are using, it is properly rated to handle the wattage of the bulb you put in it.  It is also very important that you don't let *any* heat lamp close to anything that easily catches fire.  And that there is NO WAY that it can fall.  (I use two chains)

The metal heat lamps I got from the feed store have a ceramic base to the socket. Some of the cheaper ones have plastic bases and aren't designed for high temp bulbs.

I always have mine tied up as well to make sure they cant fall.

Well, IMHO, the girls are not doing their job!  Boo.    We keep dropping slugs in front of them and they look at us like we're crazy - then they let the slugs slither away.  I thought chickens were supposed to eat slugs.  They eat my bees, that I want to keep... but they don't eat slugs.  What's up with that?

On a good note... they've devastated a few ant nest for us.  :yesss:

Mine wont eat slugs either unless they are really tiny ones. I think they dont like the slime. They also have eliminated all ants in their foraging range. If I'm out working and find a nest, I can call them over and they'll take care of it.

Quote: Most likely they sold you the right one. You need to check a couple things to make sure. It will have a sticker that will tell MAX bulb/lamp size also the base where the bulb screws in will be (typically white) ceramic if it is the right one. The others will be very light (weight) and tend to be brown or black PLASTIC.

I didnt't realize how hard it was to get serama eggs. Should have gotten them at the monroe show in march.
I've got Serama's! Not sure yet if they are laying well enough yet though...but they should be any day now! They were hatched end of January and I found an egg in the pen last week. DH and I just got home form Cabo, so I'll have to check with my girls and see if they've found more in their coop while we were gone. Let me know how many you want and I'll let you know! Send me a PM!

Cool. I looked different models up yesterday and that was the link I sent to my husband and told him I liked it the best. He, of course, chuckled that I asked for a chicken door for my birthday.

OMG I thought the same thing when I got my hens a few months ago. WHY do I keep seeing these big fat HUGE slugs in their pen? GROSS. It's because they only eat the baby ones! doh!

I think it's the ducks and the geese that eat the adults. But I already deal with too much fowl poop as it is!

When we bought our heat lamp, the feed store had us buy a hanging metal fixture. Those are dangerous? Aren't they made for that?
I got a new heat lamp in March and noticed out in the coop that the clamp kept falling off. (Good thing I wasn't using the clamp.) Those things are just cheaply made and it made me nervous, so I kept my eye on the heat lamp w/clamps I used in the house with the brooder. We've had that one for several years and I never had a problem with that clamp falling off. I'm a Red Cross volunteer so I've seen the devastation first hand when it comes to house fires......I would definitely recommend using some other fool proof way to hang the heat lamp OTHER than using the clamp that it came with.

The fixtures I use to use were rated for 300 watts and 250 watts. I would ALWAYS use a bulb 50 Watts LOWER then what the fixture was rated !! I ALWAYS used THREE strands of metal wire to hang the lights. One strand held the weight the other two were about two inches longer and were back up or safety lines!

REMEMBER to dust off the light fixtures once in a while! I've ALWAYS believed in Over kill! If one is good then three is better. just ask the lady up the street

All my coops are inside the Landlords Barn that was built in the early 1930's ( about the same time CR was born

) if that caught on fire, you wouldn't even have time to go get the hot dogs for a weenie roast before the fire was out

It must be a learned taste. My girls were running around chasing my EE who would not share the big icky slug that she found.
