Well I have not quite smoking all the way yet, but I have drasticaly cut back. Only had 4 today and should be at none tomarrow!
When I was at Bothell feed center the other day there was a guy there talking to one of the gals at the counter, talking about how he wasa thinking about finding a home for his turkeys...... I promptly introduced myself and gave him my number. Today when I was takeing fuel to one of our jobs, the guy called and said I can have them. There are three tukeys, two of which are ready now and one that is setting on eggs in their woods and I can have her when she is done. So I will be in a hurry to build my turkey pen by the end of this week! Did I mention these are free!!!!! Oh yeah.
Speeking of free, I got a call from Bothell Feed center today. Apparently somone dropped off a Black Cochin mix rooster. Not sure this is what he is but he looks a lot like Jaxx my Black Cochin that I just sold. But this guy is smaller and has a beard and muffs. Anyways, who ever dropped this poor guy off put him in a tote with a mesh lid, no water or food, but soaked him in water first. They have no idea how long he was out there baking in this box in the sun. I am their go to person if somone has roosters or chickens that they don't want. This guy is very sweet, has no problem being cought or held. But he is very happy to be out of that box now. He is in my quarenteen area for now then he will be let out with the girls.

Hope you all got to enjoy the sunshine today!

The only way to quit smoking is to STOP.

Period !
There is no such thing as "tapering down" although that does help if you STOP.
BTW~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Chantex" does help alot !
It is kinda spendy, but worth it considering it is your life & health at stake !
Ask a dr. for a RX~~~~~~~~~~~~calms the nerves.

Here is hope you make it....I DID~~~~~~~COLD TURKEY IS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP.

* Pick a date in the near future, and avoid "triggers" and say this is the day I will stop!

Destroy all cigarettes the night before, when ya go to bed, and the next day you will NOT BE A SMOKER.
I will help ya if ya need a champion.

Nothing like pictures of chickens on a great day huh? Sorry if I'm sharing too much, I love my girls!
Lay-a finally posed for me long enough for a couple pics; somehow today she was much friendlier, but still won't let me pet her on purpose or pick her up:

Look, her tail is starting to get big!

This is Scarlett, my RIR. How's her coloring/appearance? Anyone care to chime in if she's a "good" RIR? Or just typical hatchery stock? Anyway, she's hard to photograph too...skittish:

"She's got that evil camera thing again!!"

My beauty, Martha:

This is Pip, our Welsummer, AKA "The Brat"

One of our bus driver ladies was a serious chain smoker - she told me she hasn't smoked a cigarette in two months. I did notice her bus no longer reeks of cigarette stench. She said she uses electronic(?) cigarettes - one or two a day and it has helped quite a bit. Now I have to go google them and see what that's all about.

I know some people can quit cold turkey - my dad had his lung collapse when he was a young guy and he quit just like that. My brother in law refused to give up the "coffin nails" till he had a mild heart attack - quit cold turkey. A friend of my brother's had hypnosis and quit. In my dad's case he said "Uncle Sam," provided soldiers with cigarettes and they were getting hooked right and left.

It's sad- I told my son people pick up smoking when they're young 'cause it's cool. Then spend the rest of their lives trying to quit.

Chicken Tractor

These pics for ya all to see when I was cleaning the corn ball palace today:

Mini Milk house heater thermostat is not sensitive enough to come on when it is too cold or whatever...so DH connected it to a wafer therm........cool ! I can adjust temp from outside the tractoe, and see the white square thingy on the upper right ? It is a wire-less sensor so I know what the temp is by looking at the reciever in my kitchen.

Note air holes...it gets steamy with breath & water & waste in ther...birds gotta have air !

Lid folded back...........

Lid closed......glued down plexi glass gives them light

See the rain gutter there ?
Soon it will have a float switch connected to a 5 gallon bucket to keep them in water all day..right now they are still too short & have a gallon font inside

Handles on either side allow DH & I easy to roll the tractor down the hill on the side of our road.
Door to "coop" locks so no predator can access at night, and DH made an awesome welded trailer hitch for hooking up to our lawn tractor so we can tote the tractor back up the hill to start over again.

Chickens sure are set in their ways.....the old 4x4 coop is closed up, the new 4x10 coop is wide open, lamp is on......but they choose to sit on top of the old coop and whine because it's not open....when the new one is nice and roomy with an old wood ladder, a 2 foot roost, and a 4 foot roost to keep all 15 of them happy.....

That's hilarious. Mine would just stand outside the old coop and wait for me. I'd go out there and they'd be standing or laying there waiting. Stubborn things.

We came back from a trip down to my parents today, and 3.5 days left me with a lot of eggs, and a broody hen sitting on a third of them. She showed no signs of wanting to go broody friday. Today she won't move. I made her get off and go eat. She was very quick and more concerned with the water before hurrying back. I did hand feed her some treats on the nest. Switched out eggs to ones she hasn't been sitting on. I need to decide if I'm going to let her hatch eggs, or go get some chicks for her. It's such a hard decision!

I would just make a simple ramp with cleats. worked like a charm for me. just a thought

RareFeathersFarm makes her ramps with astro turf stapled to it, she says it not only gives traction but cleans their feet off also.
You can usually buy a strip a foot or two at some bigger hardware stores like Home Depot.
Avoid looped type...as toes can get catch in it.
You'd just want to get the kind that looks like stiff grass.

The ramp I like best has an asphalt roofing shingle on it. I still have to build a real ladder for the EEs because only Quinta will use the plain board I'm using now. Should have done it today but it will run me out of 2X2s and I'm thinking very seriously about how much it's actually necessary.
I'm having my usual June sleeping problems (it gets dark too late! it gets light too early!) and have gotten to the running into walls stage of sleep deprivation. I did manage to get a load of jeans washed and hung out, feed everything that needed fed, and put the sheep to work on the yard, but it's a good thing there's leftovers for dinner!

Wow! So many awesome ideas! Are any of you willing to post a picture of your ramps so I can show my husband?
