Feed will average 9 to 12% protein and is great for growing cattle, sheep and goats and maintenance on hogs. Also some corn @ $20.00 per barrel. First come first served. Yes that was what we were talking about.... his % of protein is incorrect unless he does not cook/brew beer like normal. But that stuff is great for fresh feed. Just never keep more then a week, store in cool dark place, and understand that the bottom of a barrel will be sloppy wet stuff (hence why I use 5 gallon buckets)

You can find it free if you have enough critters to feed a large amount. the brewery I get from makes about 7-16 32gallon garbage cans full of mash a week. I only use 1 can a week (5-6 5 gallon buckets)

I just wanna have a warm fuzzy fer a second! I know I don't come on very much anymore--been very very busy with not much extra snuggle time with my computer--if I am online, it's usually on that OTHER social site - you know FB- lol BUT, if I hadn't started coming here sometime ago, I would have missed out on some really great friendships...

Well here is the skinny so far......
Not only is it still raining, but I had to call DH at work to let him know I got the backhoe stuck in possibly the only mud out in the front area

! So not only am I covered in nettle stings from head to toe ankle, but I wont be getting anything done on the turkey coop today

!
Also I have a Buff O that has been trying for about a week or so to go broody on me (and she is mean as a some what broody) and now Fancy my Silver Laced Wyandott with feathered feet decided she is now broody

. This is what I get for wishing for my first broody a while back, I got one and then some. So, even thought I have "enough" chickens, I am looking for hatching eggs from somone in my area (ish). I don't really mind what they are, but I am hoping to find some Black Copper Marans most of all. Other breeds that are on the top of my list are; (anything that will lay me DARK brown eggs or green/blue eggs)

Any seasoned chicken people...if I have one coop this year with its' capacity just about maxed out (by the time I finally finish acquiring newbies next weekend), but I really want more next year and the run/yard will be plenty big enough, would it work to have 2 separate flocks/2 separate coops/1 run/yard? I was thinking of gettting established this year with our current setup, then adding an additional coop in the backyard. I just wonder how it works adding more birds as chicks. If they have their own coop, they'll be safe from my current flock right? Will they automatically want to stay in their own separate coops with no crossover at night? Or will some of the hens invade the new coop next year? Just musing. Thanks!

ok , not the feather on top of the back by the tail, sort of underneath those? I posted a pic of my welsummer a few days ago and everyone said he was a roo, his comb is bright red too and no one elses is. Thank you for the help!

Emerging hackle on a young cockerel (yes) under the back feathers & just in front of the tail is called the 'Saddle" and the feathers parted you will see emerging hackle kinda looks like quills growing out...LOL
