I actually only have eggs I am incubating now... they don't look promising because the postman roughed them up pretty good one egg sac was obviously broken

I'm looking for peachicks now... thinking about getting some from a hatchery online because nobody in WA I've found that has them is responding... but I don't think I want 8 peafowl, just a couple, so I'd have to order the minimum of 8 and find homes for some of them.
Well, Kate should be coming out of the woods anytime next week with hopefully her brood. I'll let you know! They aren't sexable until about 4 weeks though. If she doesn't show up with any and you have the 8, I might have a neighbor interested in taking a couple off of your hands. Good luck with the rest of those in your 'bator.

Thanks =D I sent you a PM

This is one of your blue eggs! Sirius must be doing a good job taking care of your EEs too

There is one egg peeping under Blackberry too - here's hoping everything goes well!

I'm not sure about the third egg, no peeping yet. (It's under Blueberry.) I'm hoping the girls will co-mama as their mamas did.
Cool! I will have to show these to the kids. Most likely Sirius Black (orpington) is the daddy but it could have been a Barnie sneaking in. The chick looks more like a barnie, or one of those Chipmunk EE's. I think if it was Serius and one of the blue ameracaunas, it would be a solid color chick.

Well this morning's removal of bees from the old house proved to bee pretty eggsciting!! We had barely started to remove siding when the bees went very aggressive. Two guys got bees INSIDE their suits. That's NOT a good time. These bees were so bad that the onlookers who were not suited but 80-90 feet away got stung. They had us all going for the duct tape to do extra sealing around legs and hands. I was the only one of the 5 person crew who didn't get stung. I figure tomorrow is my turn. One guy who wasn't suited got stung inside the nose!
When all done we ended up with one full box of very mean pisseeed off bees, 45-50 pounds of comb honey and about 10 pounds of bees in the bee vac.
I hope my job tomorrow goes as well but with nicer bees. And this person has SAID she is going to make cinnamon rolls and coffee for us (kind of hard to eat through a bee mask though).

Ouch!!!

Wow, I'm six days--400 plus posts--behind! Just thought I'd pop in and say thanks for the photos! I'm really enjoying the cuteness.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Quote: That is what I would check too! I have found that on many of the "throw away's" I get. Those little peerless transmissions are almost as simple as a bug motor. Even a cave man could work on em.
This Craftsman had a Dana/Spicer tranny. Pretty reliable tranny til water gets into it.

Well - I had my CL buyer for the two cockerels flake out on me yesterday, and of course this morning Mr Sid Vicious (the super punk rock cockerel) decided to try and crow. Makes me even more unhappy that the person flaked yesterday!

Anyway - I've got them for sale again if any of you that lost their roosters would like a super-cute replacement!

Sid's buddy

What do mean by me? I innteract with my chicks a lot. But do you mean more interaction?

I'm just overwhelmed. We are set up for 6 chickens. We lose one. My brother immediently replaces it with one chick. And now I might need to get it a friend so that makes 7. Kinda figuring this out as we go along. I'm everything will work out, just raw now its freaking me out. LOL

Its called chicken math

One Dies so you have to replace it but it needs a buddy or 2.

When I meant you yes You have to handle it a lot. Putting a stuffed animal in the brooder might help but chickens are very social. And when she gets big enough to go out with the big hens They may let her in the flock but she will always be a loner because of the age difference. So getting another will make it so she has a buddy to hang out with.

I'm so sorry about your lost chicken. I have 7-year-old twins, I know how they'd react if they lost any of our chicks, so I can feel your pain.

When the neighbor dog attacked ours, it was a bit of reality setting in that we're going to have to all learn to deal with losses. It's so difficult with little ones.

I'm a newbie, still learning... but I did have one in a chicken chair for 4 days. I was her "other chicken". It was exhausting. My 3 chickens love to snuggle up together. They are by each others side non-stop. When my little Brahma was injured and I had to take her out, it was really hard on her. I couldn't keep her near the other two in a separate kennel, because my EE would body slam against the side of the brooder trying to get to her. So, the Brahma had to go with me everywhere. If I walked out of her sight for less than 30 seconds she'd absolutely freak. So, she went with me everywhere - even to the bathroom!
ep.gif
I couldn't leave her, even if my kids or husband were in the room with her. I was her chicken companion. I even sat up with her at night until she fell asleep.

As difficult as it sounds, esp. since you're like me and want to maintain a very small flock, I would get another chick so they both have someone to snuggle up with.

Hi, All! I'm new to this thread. I have 7 pullets 4 weeks to 3 months old. (Gap due to neighbor dog attack.

) We live just a mile out of town, but with our acre and a half and only one neighbor, we feel very "out in the woods." Despite the incessant March rain, we managed to get our coop up and our chicks out of the bathroom. Anyway, I wanted to say "hi" and get started on this thread!

welcome-byc.gif
Welcome! Love your coop!

Sorry to hear about the dog attack. We just went through that - fortunately, we were lucky, my little bird that ended up in the dog's mouth only suffered broken flight feathers (as far as I could tell... she's not my friendliest bird, and didn't allow for close inspection).
I love hearing everyone's story who says they got chicks before they got their coop. I can't wait to get mine out of the garage! At 9 weeks old, they shouldn't be in the garage any more!

Granted, their brooder is probably bigger than their coop will be, so they're OK. I just want them out of the garage.

Jump on in, you can learn a lot on this thread. Again, welcome!
