Yeah, the neighbors have 2 weimeraners. They are usually in a very stout run, and when the neighbors let them out to run it's under supervision. On that particular day, however, the dogs squeezed through our gate (now fixed, a little too late) and killed 3 of our girls. Sadly, my chicken-adoring daughter saw the whole thing. She still has nightmares, and is freakishly protective of the chickens, now.

On the plus side, my husband beefed up ALL our gates, and the neighbors installed an invisible electric fence. Sad day, but we're living and learning.

Anyway, having fun on this thread! I'll be poking around a lot!

There is one egg peeping under Blackberry too - here's hoping everything goes well!

I'm not sure about the third egg, no peeping yet. (It's under Blueberry.) I'm hoping the girls will co-mama as their mamas did.
I just read that under a broody eggs will hatch at day 20, and in an incubator at day 21, on average.
I am at day 20 on my eggs in the bator and nothing yet.

Blackberry and Blueberry both have a chick this morning!

Blueberry's chick is super curious and always pokes her head out to the sound of my voice.

And the third and final egg under Blueberry finally made some noise this morning =) I wasn't sure if there was anything going on in there!

One Dies so you have to replace it but it needs a buddy or 2.

When I meant you yes You have to handle it a lot. Putting a stuffed animal in the brooder might help but chickens are very social. And when she gets big enough to go out with the big hens They may let her in the flock but she will always be a loner because of the age difference. So getting another will make it so she has a buddy to hang out with.
That darn chicken math!

I guess its either a friend or she goes back.

THANKS for your input. I appreciate it.

Hi, All! I'm new to this thread. I have 7 pullets 4 weeks to 3 months old. (Gap due to neighbor dog attack.

) We live just a mile out of town, but with our acre and a half and only one neighbor, we feel very "out in the woods." Despite the incessant March rain, we managed to get our coop up and our chicks out of the bathroom. Anyway, I wanted to say "hi" and get started on this thread!

Beautiful coop! Cute kid and chicks! Welcome to the thread!
