OK, 3 more loads of laundry done, dinner made, Costco run done and all put away, floors vacuumed, birds checked on (Princess is doing SO much better today, I haven't seen her pant at all!) and I decided to let her in with the rest of the birds; they are actually being OK with her and she's just wandering around not looking sick or stressed at all. So much for all the stress she put me through! I'm glad she's better but sheesh, what a hassle trying to figure out for 6 days that there wasn't actually anything wrong with her. Glad she feels at home here now.

I'm having family over tomorrow; in-laws. It's always much more stressful when they come. Conversations are strained and weird (they are extreme polar opposites from our family) and they come for like 2 hours and go home. Whenever my family invades comes it's so much fun and they'd never even think about coming here if they only had a couple hours. We spend DAYS together!

Even holidays with his family are a couple short hours and then everyone goes their own ways. My family? Arrive for Christmas morning at 10am and don't go home until 9-10pm

Fun times! So all this house work and nobody will be here long to enjoy it. Oh well, at least I am caught up! My body hurts though.

The kids are pretending they are dead right now. Laying on the floor at my feet moaning

Buncha weird imaginations! LOL

Okay, I'm off to Monroe tomorrow to pick up some chocolate Orp chicks.

While I'm there, at whose house do I drop off Snowman and the Bantam Cochin ladies???????????????

Hmmmmmmmmm??????????

OK so someone finally looked over all the symptoms of Princess and thought it could be Marek's? I looked in The Chicken Health Handbook and she does fit the symptoms of Neural Marek's (weight loss, labored breathing---ish, diarrhea, some droopiness). I can't find info on what percentage of affected birds live through Marek's :( I really hope that's not it! I will continue what we are doing until she takes a turn for the worse, but I think I'm going to quit with all the crazy special treatment. If she goes downhill quickly I might have to cull
hit.gif
She would be my first. I simply don't want to have to syringe her fluids for weeks only to have her die on me anyway. I hate this part of being a "farmer", it's so not fair! We didn't do anything wrong and she got sick from the stress the day we brought her home
hu.gif
Marek's takes weeks to materialize symptoms, and it is extremely contagious, if your birds have not been vaccinated, then they already have ALL been exposed.
From descroptions you have given me, it does not sound like Marek's .
It sounds like MG.

FWJ,
A couple weeks ago I took my blind hen to an avian vet. She had white spots in the pupils of her eyes. We discussed Marek's. I didn't think it was after reading hundreds of websites about it.
The vet said Marek's just doesn't occur around here, it is extremely rare. In Washington Marek's is a reportable disease.

Russ
It is very occuring here !
Remember jesica Rabbit & friends ?
This is why I vaccinate.

They didn't even give you any ideas? I would call them back in the morning and tell them you want him checked by a specialist or internist. Fluid in the abdomen can be many things, but none of them are any good, I'm sorry to say. At his age, it could be his heart, or lymphoma...I definitely would not wait until Monday to have more done with him.

This posted for TEVA: This is where you contact Jen, she works at TacomaCat.com............sounds like he has an extreme allergy issue, and so the ascites (swelling of abdominal fluid) but I am no cat expert, Jen is !
[email protected]....maybe she can help, maybe take kitty to see her ?

WHAT THE HECK!!? Every time I decide to name the birds, one goes and gets sick on me!! It's a conspiracy!!

So, this morning I went to open the coop, and found Princess Buttercup lagging behind and falling over on her head, then onto her side. I immediately picked her up and put her in a box in the house. Upon closer inspection, she has a runny nose and having a hard time breathing. I don't think there's enough time for me to go and get meds for her, and from what I've read, most people cull for respiratory infections. Well, I can't bring myself to cull, and she is already on her side with her feet splayed out and having difficulty breathing. I hate to see them suffer, but there's nothing I can do. I don't have a sharp enough axe! (ugh. Just the thought! And Princess Buttercup was my favorite name!!)

OMG I hope this respiratory infection isn't going to affect my whole flock!!

MG again.
And I will add:
Poops will eventually be a gob with ALOT of water...if you have poop boards under your roosts you wil notice their poop is not a golf ball or other firm shape, it will be a glob with a puddle of water around it.
ALOT OF WATER
Basic symptom of Collibaciliosis, as I told FWJ before.
And yes, it is contagious, they all drink from the same cup.
Hence the "solution" of 2 cups of unscented household bleach in a gallon jug,{LABEL THIS JUG AS "SOLUTION"}.....( then from this , add 1 Tablespoon per gallon of their drinking water FOR WELL BIRDS, and 2 Tablespoons per gallon for SICK BIRDS.
EVERYDAY.

We go through this every year !

The culprit is e.coli which only attacks when their immunal system is pre-occupied with another disease issue, such as a Chronic Respiratory Disease such as Mycoplasma.

Read more here:http://www.westvet.com/collibacilliosis.htm
Dr.Dhillon is a vet working at the WSU Avian Health & Saftey Lab in Puyallup...and he helped me greatly, when no amount of antibiotics would save my birds years ago.
Seriously pay attention...this happens every spring.

See basic poultry diseases here:

http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Go to the bottom of the page & see charts that compare the diseases, and note: these are not ALL the diseases poultry can have, but sounds to me like MG, which always goes around this time of year.
Mareks slowly lames birds...with no issue of breathing.

Yeah but you want them for eggs too and you'd need a lot of Bantams to get enough eggs to feed your family.
Thanks for the call this morning, sorry I didn't call back. I'm exhausted. Princess is still acting strange and is sitting quietly in a dog carrier with food and water next to me. Don't know if I'll put her out for the night or not.
Large Fowl Breeds that are down sized to bantam size have very large eggs as their large fowl relatives.
Native Bantams do not have large eggs.
CR's downsized batam RIR lay very large eggs, bigger than alot of large fowl breeds.
See the bird was down sized, but not the egg machine contained therein.

OK we are looking at getting a owner/builder mortgage, which involves a list of every stick, oven & toilet into a spread sheet and then a line of credit is brought up and then vouchers can be issued to contractors or us buying needed items on such list.
No we cannot go on vacation................LOL

But it does involve us shopping for everything we need and then trying to get any bids from contractors for work, which all goes into the loan.

Greg wanna do a bid on the sheetrock ?
PM me or e-mail me & I can send you a blueprint copy.

So~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ we are very busy, busier than normal busy.

Just set Black Quechua Olmec eggs for hatching!
very excited about these total black birds from South America.............
