Looks like Chubby Chicken wants our two bantam Cochins!

But now Snowman is the only one left unspoken for. I hate for him to be all alone! He'll likely be solitary as of this coming Friday. At the advice of the experts on the Silkies thread, I dropped his price. Seems he's not the prime physical breeding specimen he could be, but he is the most amazing sweetheart.

What do you guys use for 'wound care'?

I noticed that on my D'Uccle, there is a small spot on her foot that is raw. It looks like maybe one of the feathers broke off? It doesn't look really bad and she doesn't seem to be bothered by it. But wondering of I need to treat it or just leave it be?

THANKS

Just out of high school I did work as a Vet Kennel Assistant & did have to help with a few euthanasia's, help with porkipine quill removel, shaving pets while they were asleep etc. I had thought about being a Vet Tech but didn't enjoy high school, got a c average, so didn't really want to do more schooling. I found a Cocker Breeder that needed help with her kennels so we did a trade for her teaching me to groom dogs. I love it, that was 14yrs ago this month that I had started that. After working in several grooming shops I started a mobile grooming business, so nice to have the freedom to schedule the way I want to, call it a long day or a light day. I built it almost 5yrs ago so that my daughter, 3yrs at the time, could come with me so we didn't need a babysitter. I now juggle my schedule around her school days & hrs. With school out last week she is now with me all the time, she does help me a good amount although sometimes she seems to slow me down if she gets her stubborn streak. Over all its fun having her with me as she's almost 8yrs.
I love showing dogs only if the breed isn't popular. I enjoyed showing our Parson Russell Terrier back in 00' to 03' cause he was a new breed but by 03' it got really hard to show cause the breed started getting taken over by handlers & judges were picking the handlers rather then the dog.
We had got a cocker from the breeder that trained me in grooming 3yrs ago but being a good 10yrs older from when she trained me, her health was going down hill fast so I didn't get advice from her. The cocker being our 3rd dog & my business getting busy I found i didn't have time to work with her like I had with my other 2 older dogs. So they were behaved & the cocker not. She got in so much trouble around the house & digging the back yard up & bringing it on her feet, my allergies going nuts. It was just too much & then the breeder had us on a contract to show & breed her. I couldn't handle it so i had to give her back last yr. I do miss her as she loved to be groomed & enjoyed meeting new people. But it is so nice not to have the dog that stressed me out all the time around.

The politics behind dog shows was a major player in my decision to not get into handling! I don't have thick enough skin!!! Sorry you weren't able to keep your cocker but I understand about getting stressed. I have had to rehome a dog in the past and it's not fun, but necessary if you know it's for the better! My cocker is the most high maintenance dog I have had, although one of the sweetest! She's quite the rag-a-muffin right now and I need to shave her down for the summer as we have terrible problems with cheat grass around here and she is a magnet for them!

Island chicks, I bet you glued all your chickens to the spot, so they wouldn't move while you took their picture. If you don't mind me asking - why would anyone want to leave Hawaii? I've never been there but my family has several times and they love it. I hear it's heaven on earth.
That is the same question I was going to ask! We have only been to Hawaii one time last July to get married and now we are planning a trip back with the kids and then we plan to move there ASAP, but will probably be for retierment.

To all the new peeps, it is great to have you join us here! Lots of people here with great advice and some that have great chicken stealing skills!

Poking my nose up for a moment:

Busy, busy, busy but also whacked back by grass pollen and Pacific low pressure systems, the combination of which get my ears and sinuses very unhappy.

Ten eggs from ten hens four days out of the last seven.

Tried to count all the roses in bloom but I keep forgetting whole classes of them- roses in pots, for instance.

My poor sheep still needs shorn, and I am doing very badly making phone calls at all which makes everything worse. I may yet end up cutting off his wool with kindergarten scissors or something equally inappropriate.

Life is rich and full and I need to ship cockerels and a rooster to the auction, but neither my DH nor I are in the kind of shape to get there early any day soon.

Ron, I need to move the first BLRW rooster I bought along, but he is not so sweet-tempered as he might be and I sincerely do not want to give him to someone whose good opinion I value.

His worse habit is keeping his hen from getting to food he doesn't trust, which at this point is anything except Layena, romaine lettuce, peanuts, and raw oatmeal.

Two birthday chickens!

Another busy weekend, working on coop and run. This weekend was making their chicken door, to the run. Easy enough...but not when we have off and on rain, a sudden monsoon hit then power knocked out for 5 hours. LOL

We moved the run (12x6x6 dog run) over a bit so DH could work on chicken door. I had chickens in run with their food/water. DH goes up to house for something and I hear him say "here it comes", as he is running back. I seriously thought he meant like a tornado or something. All of a sudden a HUGE downpour hit. I have NEVER seen anythign like it. He was scrambling to get his tools covered. I was scrambling to grab chickens and put them in the coop without letting them escape the run. It was chaos. I think we looked like a scene from a comedy. TOTALLY drenched from head to toe.

Finally we duck under the covered porch on coop. (hardly any protection from this monsoon). Then it hits me. AH man their food is in the run.

YEP, soggy food. After the rain quit I went out and mixed it all up and put it backin container. Let them eat it last night and most of today. I will clean it out and put fresh back in tonight.

CRAZY.

So here is DH making the chicken door and then them trying it out, today for the first time.

Tuesday we will pull the run out again and block the entrance, so I can paint that side of the coop. Then we will put it back and start with the final touches on permantly securing it. YEAH!!!!

I have a three week old BLRW just don't know what sex yet. Hoping for a roo. But thanks for the offer
