Ive always used cedar shavings in the coop, dusted with DE and put apple cider vinegar in the water. They arent confined to a small space at all and free range all day.
Its suppose to all be a natural way of preventing.
Im trying to do everything naturally and organic and we try to do everything chemical free But Im at a loss here. Ive done everything I thought would avoid it and here I have lice.

Anything I missed Id like to know about though!

Cedar shavings, kiln dried is fine for adult birds, but I do not use them with chicks as chicks have new developing & more sensitive lungs and they are confined, and closer to the shavings.
I use white shavings for chicks, keets and ducklings and sand for polts
baby duckles so cute : this was last spring (2 years ago was last spring, right ?)

You're awesome. Thanks! Do you also do ACV or would the bleach solution just kill whatever good is in the ACV in the water? I'm going to Wazine today and Eprinex next week. My girls are only 14 weeks though...so it's not like they're super old and have never been wormed. I'll just be glad when they all start having normal poops again and I can relax. These are my last 2 new birds as well, so after they integrate I can just sit back and enjoy everyone! AND I'll have eggs in a month or two!

I would do one or the other, not both, in the water.
I choose to use chlorine as it kills every bug & virus in the world.
ACV does not.

When you do a Wazine treatment, is it best to wait until tomorrow and keep them all in the run all day long so their only access to water is the treated water? Right now they're out and about in the rain (running around like the sky is falling when the drips get them!

) and I'm afraid if I changed the water over NOW, they wouldn't drink enough of it to treat them properly. WDYT?

yes I would confine them tomorrow & do it.

That is just my opinion though, there are others here you could ask.

I'm asking you because #1: you know your stuff and #2: you're here and being helpful. Thanks so much! I'm thinking of leaving out all kitchen scrap treats for a while too, to see if their poops balance out on the new food. Whew! So much to think about to ensure I'm taking the best care I can of these 12!

and good idea.
Dairy products can upset digestion (in my birds anyways.)
Birds have no stomach or stomach acid nor do they produce lactose (that I know of) so the dairy products can ferment is what I gather.
Other than that, too much sugary stuuf, or honey or molasses can give them the trots.

Got 100 lbs of smoked... but waiting on the halibut which might come this weekend
I'm about to start work was just looking beforehand...

btw if you see me on here 24/7 I am not really here 24/7.....
