yea!!! got the grow pen done. got all but 5 of the chicks out of house and into the grow pen. The 5 that are still in house are still too small to go out in the pen yet. But this does make hubby happier.. He was jumping for joy and even more so when he thought I gave landlady her incubator back. (well I did but she gave me a different bator) lol. And yup have 6 eggs in it too.. lol. hubby's response "Darn it"

As of recently, Tacoma meat shop is no longer processing poultry!

Only bad part about the weekend was the phone call from my 16 year old. He finally called a week later to find out about my mom. I had left a message a week ago. got told by his grandmas hubby to not call their house again that my son was told not to have contact with me. well he finally called and told me I was on speakerphone. asked about my mom and then wanted to know about my other 2 kiddos... I told them they were both doing good and that my youngest got diagnosed severe adhd and possibility of autism that will be evaluated more in 3 months. I heard his grama whisper to him that I was lying. He said he had to go and I asked if he would call me again sometime. his reply "Nope *****" and he hung up. Right now he is being told lies and things about me that aren't true and he choses to believe it. But I had to make a choice a year and half ago... leave him in jail for over 3 years or find a family member that would be willing to take him and he do 2 yrs probation. My family all live out of state and couldn't take him. So I found his Grandma's number (she had no contact for 12 years her choice) and got ahold of her. Today I regret that choice but I also see this as his only hope of having anysort of life as an adult. It is still hard to have my own son call me horrid names and hang up. So no more phone calls for me. Letters get read to him and twisted around. So My only thought is cards.. simple..

I am so sorry. When he gets older and move's away from them and gets his head back he will remember what you mean and call you.

I don't know how i missed this forum before, but looking forward to getting to know you all and learn from your insights.

We just moved to a farm in Enumclaw (are there any others from around here?) and i don't know what we were thinking, but we adopted 14 new chicks (to o along with our 6 that we moved from our old house) and 3 ducks.

If any one is looking for a mobile butcher, now that the Meat Shoppe of Tacoma has gone the way of the dodo, we have a butcher out here by the name of Olsen's Meats. Looked into using them at our old house. We lived in the South Sound area, and they mentioned that they had no limits to their service area.

See and soon ya will have yer own Silkiebator. I am seriously considering selling my LG bator. No more hatching than I am gonna do Silkiebator is the answer! Setter and forgetter for 20 days.

I had figured on avoiding a big part of chicken math by NOT having an incubator. I forget that we have some very skilled enablers on this thread.  And what do I do? Hatch out natural bators!

We all aim to please!!!

Happy I could help Robin! After all, if I'm ever featured on "Animal Hoarders" I want to share the limelight with my friends. We'll all be on television together - won't that be fun?

Gah! I had read somewhere that they should be on newspaper the first couple days to *avoid* spraddle leg. Rats! Thanks Cloverleaf.
I do have soft white shavings that I brooded all my other chicks on.

I start ours on white shavings with paper towels over it. It works great they can see the food if you sprinkle it on it which helps them find were its at. Plus easy to clean too. Good luck
When they are older Ive used alfalfa pellets its a great smell and the chicks can eat it too, than when your done drop it in your garden great for plants..

What colors did you get??? Pics?

This was an assortment, I hatched out two buff, one porcelain who will be going to my enabler, two lavender, two from Paint eggs (one looks like it might actually be paint but not sure), and four BBS. Sadly, the one white egg she sent was not viable...I really wanted a white pullet!

Here they are while still hatching out in the bator, they would respond to our voices and come over to visit. So personable!


And here they are in the brooder. We're going to get individual shots soon. I've got a few with obvious vaulted skulls.

SO cute!!! I absolutely love the silkie babies! I have found them to be the most personable of any chicks I've raised yet, (with the Seramas running a close second). Even at 7 1/2 weeks any one of my Silkie babies is happy to be held and will sit on our laps chirping, and singing the sweetest little songs while we visit with them, almost like we're carrying on a conversation. When I go to put them back in the brooder, they are even a little reluctant to have their one on one time be over. If it wasn't for poop being a real issue, I might never put them outside!

You did a great job hatching Robin. Nice hatch rate for shipped eggs. You're a natural!
