I also have a pullet that makes a goose/duck quack sound. I think she is a black Australorp, not sure though. But I call her Ducky!

Cyotes will come durring the day here too, I had one a few months ago that took two Silver Laced Wyandottes that I just got the day before. But now that I have the turkeys I have not seen or heard them around at all. Also the hawks just fly over head and never come down to take any birds *knocks on wood*!

Hope everyone is out enjoying the sun today. This weekend I will be building a new wall inside my coop so that I can take the old wall down to make it bigger, sense all the building I find I can't get my hands on. Oh well. Also I have 14 eggs from 4-Hpoultrymom due on Sunday.

The following weekend is one of our DD's birthday party, she is my oldest and will be 10 this Sunday. We have to rent horses as I still have not found the right horse to buy.

A little something to go along with the beautiful sunshine which also brings a smile.
An old classic story................

An avid duck hunter was in the market for a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a dog that could actually walk on water to retrieve a duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of his friends would ever believe him.
He decided to try to break the news to a friend of his, the eternal pessimist who refused to be impressed with anything. This, surely, would impress him. He invited him to hunt with him and his new dog.
As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by, they fired, and a duck fell. The dog responded and jumped into the water. The dog, however, did not sink but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet. This continued all day long; each time a duck fell, the dog walked across the surface of the water to retrieve it.
The pessimist watched carefully, saw everything, but did not say a single word.
On the drive home the hunter asked his friend, "Did you notice anything unusual about my new dog?"
"I sure did," responded the pessimist. "He can't swim."

Hi from Sammamish!

I am very new. I don't even have my chicks yet, but I am finishing the coop and yard now. I am looking for some locally hatched chicks to start my flock with. I want nice friendly egg layers that will not attack me like the rooster my mom had years ago. I was looking at Black Australorp, Delaware, Sex Links, or Speckled Sussex as my top 4 breeds, I also love the Lavender Cochin, and the Plymouth Rock. My husband has limited me to 5 hens (for now). ; ) What would be good choices for friendliness and egg production? Any young chicks available around Western Washington? Thank You for any information.

Shyla.

Hi Shyla! There's a lot of places to get chicks and pullets. I know Iron Horse Hay and Feed had some Australorps last week when I was there and they are still getting weekly small shipments of pullets. Also, Baxter Barn in Fall City, which isn't far from you, has loads of healthy birds for sale. I love the ones I got from there. If you aren't opposed to driving to Shoreline/Seattle, Seattle Farm Supply (who is very trustworthy and informative, will take his time with you and tell you anything you need to know) is always getting new chicks in; right now he's giving away bantams (straight run though) because they aren't selling and he's moving on. Hope to help!

Look what a friend gave me:
It is a little old. 2 of them have holes in the bottom, but I think I can fix with with some plywood or something. Little rust here and there.....but other than that great. I am going to put it somewhere protected for now. I plan on doing up a nice "layer" coop - probably next year - I want to be able to sell eggs.
Nice score, Teresa!!!
