We have since added 2 Flemish Giant Bunnies to our mix and plan on exploring raising rabbits a bit more. We have a great mix of critters including cattle, 2 cats, 5 Dogs (1 Papillon, 1 English Bulldog, 2 Shepherd mixes and one Lab mix)

I look forward to learning from and sharing info with all the folks here...

Regarding rabbits, the Flemish giant is a very nice breed, BUT, VERY slow to mature. So, if you are planning on raising them for food, you would do better with a smaller, faster maturing rabbit.
We raise over 90% of our own meat (only buying fish; and red meat occasionally). My main food is rabbit, followed by chicken, duck and goat.

Hope everyone enjoyed the sun!
I got the large gate in place today then worked my shift so I'm a little wiped today...
Will try and get a picture of the new fence tomorrow....
Hoping I can get the holes in the cement for the other 2 post tomorrow......
Then hang the second gate on Sunday...

Would have most of it done already except that darn job to pay bills keeps getting in the way!

Wasn't it you who was flying to Alaska with some pullets for friends? Did you go/come back already? How was the trip?

Quote: I made too much of a mess out of ours to have it fixed, so we bought two more.

Couldn't get the boat motor running for more than a few minutes, so took it to the marina. They told us they could get the new "circuit" thing and fix it by next Tuesday - after hubby's vacation!

Bummer!
Hope everyone else is having a good weekend. Oh, wait, it's just started. This is the tail end of our vacation

Hey did anybody see me in the first running of the bulls on the news this am ???

OK I am outta here off to Summer Sampler at Wells Winery!

BTW Of course ya didn't see me in the running of the bulls !!!! Do ya think I am stu no wait let's not go there! ! !

Would it work fairly well to begin keeping them in the run all morning and only allowing them to free-range in the afternoons?

I don't know about training for laying, but that's what I do, and mine seem to be fine. I have no desire for any more neighbor issues, and I haven't clipped any wings yet, so mine don't free-range until I'm ready to be out there. They seem fine to be in the run in the morning. Before we had the run, they spent a good portion of their day in the chicken tractor. It was home to them. Even if the door was open, they'd hang out in the tractor.

Last night, after we got home from camping, we let them out to free-range and the silly birds walked around for a while then went back inside their run. I guess they like it in there.

Well I am way back on page 7750......so maybe I will catch up, maybe not.
If I missed anything important, please PM me.

Einstein decided he would finally work on developing our spring.
Water runs there as a rapid creek all year but for July-Sept it runs under ground about 4".
This dry time of year is the only time you can dig out a spring...the rest of the year it is flowing water too fast !

So I dug, and digging was easy in the gooey clay, and we have tons of water. There was a
developed spring hole there with a rusted out culvert around it when we bought the place.

Then we cleaned up everything & hauled loads of scrap metal out of here.
So, maybe this will be all we need...I have to find out how much it produces per hour and what is involved in registering it.
Next door there is a spring also registered and serves 3 households, so we intend to talk to that man & see what he had to do to make it a legal water source, then maybe we won't have to drill again after all.
There is no way to get a drill rig in where this spring is~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~or we would do that.Right n
ow DH is making the culvert, then we pack gravel around it.

Also have folks coming to buy birds today, so will not be online much today.

BYE PEEPS !!!!!!!!
