Hi Fellow Washingtonians.  I'm on Whidbey.  Looking for some small friendly bantam types (preferably a trio) for my daughter for show in August.  We had 3 lovely bantam cochins for her to use and of course neighbor's puppy got into the chicken pen and couldn't resist the cute little fluffy chickens.  Sigh...Anyways...let me know.  I could pick up within reasonable distance. Thanks!

I might have a Bantam Ameraucana trio .... still counting boys :barnie

Hope everyone enjoyed the sun!
I got the large gate in place today then worked my shift so I'm a little wiped today...
Will try and get a picture of the new fence tomorrow....
Hoping I can get the holes in the cement for the other 2 post tomorrow......
Then hang the second gate on Sunday...
Would have most of it done already except that darn job to pay bills keeps getting in the way! :barnie

Wasn't it you who was flying to Alaska with some pullets for friends? Did you go/come back already? How was the trip?

Yes but I have to get things scheduled first. Work, my Alaskan friends, the birds, how many they want etc etc....
I work for a airline so the flying part is easy and no cost.... it is the rest that will take time :)

.... dunno about QUACKing tho... you have weird birds :p

:yuckyuck When my chicken quacks, it makes everyone laugh.  It's fun to have a weird bird.  :lau

Pullets will "practice" laying before they start laying, so if she is under a bush doing this you might want to check there when she does start laying :) or you can grab her and tuck her into a nest box with a fake egg. Hoping she gets the idea....

Mine are 12 weeks old.  Right now we have the egg boxes closed off with wood.  When should I take that down so they can practice?  I don't want them sleeping in them.
Do I need 2 eggs boxes for 3 chickens?  Or can I use one for storage?  I have been told my Light Brahma may not lay until she is a year old, so I'm guessing I'll just have 2 laying for a while.

Yes take both doors off the nest boxes... they can start playing early to fuss and play house and etc.... If you catch them roosting in the nest then there is something the hen does not like about the roost so they went to nest instead. Or if they are old enough they will nest sit when broody...... It is the major way for me to tell who is getting broody or is broody in my flock.

My girlfriend put eggs from a local breeder under her broody a few months back hatching some Dorkings and Salmon Faverolles, but has decided she needs to let her Dorking trio go. She lives in Tacoma so can't keep the roo and would like them all to go together. They were born right about the end of April and I understand Dorkings can be good winter layers.

I think the Silver boy is especially good looking - but aren't those roos always pretty? Here's a not great pic I took with my phone when we were over there on the 4th.

PM me if you're interested and I can give you a price and her contact information!
