Hey, Nikki99!! Great name! Welcome to BYC!

I'm new to chickens, too. Got my first in March. I've been trawling the website since we bought our place last summer, though. So many people know SO much, and are friendly and ready to share. I appreciate people who realize that chickens are real pets, not just farmyard decoration.

If you haven't already done so, check out the "stories and pictures of my chickens" part of the forum. It's a kick.

Anyway, glad you're here!

(Incidentally, I live in Eatonville, but I work in Morton and I lived in east Lewis County for years, so to me you're kind of local. When you live on the east end, "local" covers a lot of territory!)

Nope, haven't had that one...but also haven't paid for a drink out in a long time...I have my own espresso machine and Keurig, so we're pretty much set in the coffee department. I'll have to look up that drink and make one though...

I just finished the last episode of season 2 of Downton Abbey. I love that show! Super good, if anyone is Netflix or Hulu shopping for entertainment right now

We want an espresso machine but there's so many out there I have no idea where to start! I would love to be able to make my own coffee drinks.

I am surprised that you spell yours like I spell mine, most Nikki's are one k or ck or have a y at the end. I always get excited when I see a Nikki!

It's amazing how much information you can find here! I think when I first joined, I was overwhelmed, I didn't come around much, but now I'm here to stay! Haha I have definitely noticed how friendly people here at BYC are, it's great! I don't feel intimidated to ask questions or to dive in to a conversation.
I absolutely love my chickens! They are really entertaining and some of them are just down right sweet and want to be around me. My RIR (Pancake) is my favorite. She runs to see me, she follows me everywhere, she doesn't mind one bit being picked up and carried around. I really enjoy just sittin back and watching them.

I haven't been to that thread yet, I'll have to check it out too. Thanks!

I had no idea where Eatonville was, so I googled it real quick, yep, we aren't far at all! Just under 2hrs isn't bad.

Anyway, thanks again for sayin hi! I look forward to talking to you more!

Oh, I know! I just HATE to see "Nicki" or "Nicky!" Probably because I've had my name misspelled every conceivable way, and by the time I was 10 or so I had a deep-seated prejudice against the letter "c".

Incidentally, are you a natural born Nikki, or is it short for Nicole? My name is Nikki on my birth certificate, but I'm an oddball on that score, I know. Funny thing...when we adopted our son, his birth mom's name is Nicole, and my case worker was Nicky. I'd phone the case worker, and it would start, "Hi, Nicky. This is Nikki. I need to talk to you about Nicole." Life is a weird thing.

From Morton Castle Rock is, if not close, at least as close as anything else. Our former dean of students is now the principal at the elementary school in Castle Rock. Her name is Angela Bacon, and she's a national treasure. I wish we could have kept her in Morton, but I'm sure she's awesome in Castle Rock, too. You're lucky to have her!

As far as obligatory chicken talk, we just LOVE our "girls!" They have so much personality, and are so funny. Especially our barred rock, Amelia. She's very curious, and has her beak into everything. She tried to pick the rhinestones off my shirt yesterday! She often hangs out on our back doorstep...I think she'd like to be a house bird if we'd just let her in.

Anyway, welcome! Great to have someone on board who knows how to spell important names!

Welcome to all the new peeps!

I'm so glad today is over. I spent almost the entire day setting derby car wheels. Between two of us adults, about 800 wheels (200 Jeeps) had to be set. Thankfully, a few group leaders stepped in to help for a few minutes from each group, as well. We finished just as the final camp ceremony was over.

One more day - a half day, and Cub Camp is over. Fantastic camp - but I'm ready to be done.

The kids have done amazing crafts. My Webelos scout made a beautiful wood-burned Mancala game, a cool walking stick that has a hand-woven handle, and an awesome looking African mask. My Bear Cub made a Lion bank, a rain stick, and a kaleidoscope. Both of them made hammered bowls out of aluminum. They made and learned how to play a didgeridoo. And, they did archery and shot BB guns. Good times for boys!

Got home about 5:00, freed the girls from their run, only to have 3 little two-legged "predators" come play outside with water gun tubes. The girls darted as quick as they could back to the run. They haven't ventured out since. Poor girls, I hope they get a chance to free-range soon.

Love the nespresso machines. They function like a keurig but for espresso. Can't pull a bad shot that way! Just save yourself the money though and buy the milk steamer at Fred Meyer.

I have 3 SQ whites from nice show lines. They hatched the 2nd week in May. Unsexed- they LOOKED like girls at hatching- which is why I kept these 3- but, with silkies, sometimes you never know until they crow or lay.
