OK so I am gonna throw myself under the bus. JUST FYI for some of you newbies. I see and hear lots of panic stories about locking the coop at night etc. Well for what it's worth (and I know many will disagree) I NEVER lock my birds in the coop at night. They are all contained in the coop/run. They are free to go to bed when they want and go out when ever there want in the morning. And just in case yer wonderin yes I do live in the country. In fact I live so far out in the styx that they have to pipe daylight to me! Yes we have yoddle dawgs, bears and BIG kitty cats. But anything that is gonna get a chicken dinner here will have to get into the run then fit through a chicken size door into the coop then get up 3' off the ground to pull the birds off the roost. By the time all that could happen I will probably already have delivered a lead injection and the problem would be solved. SSS ! ! ! That is how we do it here

My chickens dont have a run like a lot of you guys here. They have a big house with roosts and nest boxes within our fenced front yard. Its a 5ft fence complete all around attached to OUR house. Which always seemed secure enough not to worry about it. But after I lost my bantam turken girl (that our whole family loved more than any bird to ever touch this property) We started locking the house every night. I wait for them to goto bed and night and I let them out in the morning. Its a pain. Im considering adding a small run so theres not so much worry.

I set a trap every night for a month straight and didnt catch anything. Im guessing just some vermin passing through. I just dont want to take my chances.

My meat birds on the other hand...they are all just out there in their own house and area with nothing but plastic deer fencing keeping them in. Some of them just sleep on their little porch, wide out in the open for anything to come scoop them up and I havent had any go missing.

Anyone got good recipe for meal worms...AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Funny you should mention that, some years ago, when I was in the ad industry, I saw an ad campaign using all sorts of bugs in food. The photographer did a great job because all the food looked so yummy until you looked close and saw all the bugs, grasshoppers etc.
i have heard /seen this too. Ick.

On a side note....we r having an insane storm right now. Heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and hail. It keeps circling us.

My Icelandic listing on eBay the guy who won he came down from Brewster today did pick up eggs and he bought six more icelandic chicks to go with it
Today was a good day

So you want anything brought over from here when I go to Seattle on Tuesday taking orders

I could also bring fresh rainier cherries or Bing cherries

So, yesterday I got 6 Barnevelders. They are in Quarantine right now, and later I shall do an Eprinex on them. If I remember right, it's 0.5 ml per LF?!?!?! Then another dose in 10 days?!?!?!

hey guys ! How is everyone ?  :frow

We have sent 18 to freezer camp yesterday and have another 18 or so to do today.
But it has been raing all day~~~~~~~~~~~DH got a tarp to hang over the butcher sink/scalder/plucker area so we can continue.
Ya know 12 hours before butchering you should with hold feed, but I still let them graze on grass.
This makes it much cleaner & easier to process without poo every where or full packed crops.  :sick
So we have to get out there & do the deed or feed.
So far the corn balls are running 9-11 #................and they are constantly starving even when they have feed before them..............it is time.

Other than that, lumber should arrive next Tuesday or so....then have to buy yet another tarp..........:lau

Later peeps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What chiken do you use for you meat birds?
