About that cancer thingy. I know the following is true.
ANYTHING you enjoy eating is either illegal, immoral or it causes cancer.
I have been around long enough to know; that all studies (usually funded by us, the govt) are self serving.
I've been through "coffee causes cancer of the bladder" only to have a study come out several years later saying oops, we messed up, coffee is GOOD for you.
The COLESTERAL scare in eggs, omg it'll kill you, only now we find (the govt says so) eggs are good for you, which we already knew. The colesteral thingy about eggs was strictly a political thing by LBJ but that's another story.
Well onto better things: My two new gals that I got from Risingstar, Eng Orps, one black and one blue are intergrating into the flock. Yeah they still get picked on by the HCIC but not so much now. Last nite they finally followed her into the coop after she came out several times to eyeball them and when I checked they both were up on the roost.

Need to buy some paint and finish this coop.

Well yes and no. See the ounce of prevention you refer to IMO would be the very mild chlorine solution to prevent them from getting sick.

And just to be clear to ALL Sorry but if you haven't notice I do not get the whole noun, pronoun, verb, adverb stuff. No kidding I can't tell one from another but can surely express myself and even in a rather colorful manner at times if pushed.

I am who I am and that is all I will ever be.

The prevention would be to stay away from unnecessary chemicals, and maybe try some good ole elbow grease, instead of taking the lazy, chemical way.

The pronoun thing is referring to the fact that in my beginnings here, on this thread, you would refer to me through someone else's post. For example, I say I think XYZ, then someone commented, Well, I think QRS, then you would chime in, "What does she think?" Obviously referring to me, but being indirect, my name is Trish, not she. Ask ME, don't be passive aggressive. Be direct, get what you need.

Thank you everyone for the condolences about my kitten Scar. Everyone around here loved him even hubby who is so not a cat person at all.

Yoda is doing very well today... yesterday he seemed a little depressed. (can cats get like that?) after all Scar was his litter mate and best play buddy. But Yoda is much better today.

Tomorrow I am going to predator proof this pen here somehow. Not quite sure yet how but I will definately get it done. Then I can get all 13 of my chickens and my 8 ducks to our new house. I actually miss seeing them and hearing them. Although I have gone over there everyday since the big move to get the final bits of stuff from the house.

Hubby is wanting to get a speckled sussex rooster for my ladies. because he just likes them. out of the 13 chickens 2 are roosters but they are meat birds and the 3 golden sexlinks girls are meat birds too. That leaves me 3 speckled sussex girls and 5 barred rock girls.

And landlady gave an incubator to keep. it seems to work pretty good so far. Only it doesn't come with a turner but that is ok.
So sorry about Scar, its sad and it hurts. I recently had to put down my pregnante 6 month old boots due to a bad hole in her diaphram--she could not breath and would die befor kitties came.

Totalcolour I am coming in late on this but, to the best of my ability(reading glasses) I didn't see my favorite thing on the list - ICE CREAM - HURRAY!!

AHA! Well, for those who don't know, the oil from the begamot plant is carcinogenic, so if anyone eats bergamot ice cream, they are asking for trouble. And, for those who don't know, Eary Grey tea contains bergamot.

From the above link:
'Appropriate warnings' is the most important issue. There is nothing wrong with selling many of our most hazardous oils for non-contact uses, i.e. in fragrance heaters, pot pourii, candles, etc. However, it is unscrupulous to not warn people that these products should not be applied to the skin, and also probably illegal. Expressed bergamot and lime oils are good examples of where dangers are well documented and therefore the products must by law bear warnings.

What you seem to be missing is that EVERYTHING on this planet is chemistry. Our bodies are made up of chemicals, Natural compounds are NO different than their manufactured equivalents.

Vitamin C from fruit is no different from manufactured vitamin C - they are chemically identical.

Yes, some chemicals are bad for you, and we need to be careful around them. I am an artist and use white lead paint. It is Toxic, So I wear rubber gloves. There is an alternative paint, but it doesn't have the same properties I'm looking for. So, I use the hazardous stuff, VERY CAREFULLY. I don't eat it, or let it come into contact with my skin.

We should treat all chemicals with respect.
