Oh, and as far as the Chlorine (Sodium Hypochlorite) issue is concerned:
I have been told from many old time breeders and doctors and Avian health Doctors in various Universities that this is the way to go with poultry water systems.
Since I am NOT a doctor, I tend to follow their instructions.
I AM a registered Dental Assistant AND Oral Surgery Assistant and worked at UW with a few Endodontists as well.all of them use a similar solution in their drill water systems to prevent infection & help eliminate infection in abcessed teeth.
You know the water that squirts out of the dental drill ?
That has Chlorine added in higher amounts than what Avian health Doctors recommend.
OK...just another tid bit of info~~~~~~~~~

Bleach is just a term used by the Laundry industry for the same product.
Common household "Bleach" is called just that as it is used to bleach clothing whiter.
The label on common household "bleach" states it is Sodium Hypochlorite.

OK... good thing I haven't done any of this yet. So the solution you make... is it made out of common household bleach, or something else. If not household bleach where do you get what you use?

Funny... I should have known that chlorine evaporation thing... I've been setting water out to have chlorine evaporate before cleaning our fish tank for two years.

ok. an ingredient IN bleach, but what else is in there?
Household "Bleach" is Sodium Hypochlorite 6.% and the rest is water unless you have scented bleach, it would have those ingredients in it.
I do not use scented bleach.

* you can read the label on the brand you have.
If it has scent in it, it should say so.

The Solution:

2 cups of household unscented Bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) in 1 gallon of water.
I use a clean empty milk jug.
LABEL THIS JUG as "Solution"

Now, from this "Solution" jug, measure 1 T and add to 1 gallon of your bird's water if they are well.
Everyday, forever.
fresh daily if at all possible.
And keep this jug of solution under the sink or other dark place.

If your birds are sick, add 2 tablsespoons of the solution per gallon of their drinking water.

I also have spray bottles I add the solution (straight) to clean counters, toilets, showers, bird fonts, crates, brooders, incubators, you name it.

I will attach a file from WSU:

Remember Dr. Dhillon works at the Puyallup Avian Health Lab...a very nice man.
