The chick didn't make it.

Found it dead this morning. I am going to get some Tylon and Corid just so I have it on hand. Do they need to be kept refrigerated?
Bummer! Sorry about that.

I do not have a cOncrete run, just dirt! The green metal roof radiates heat downward and cools tem. Great in the winter, not so great on hot days :( I put the fan there anyway, I do not believe for even a second that stagnate hot air is the same to a chicken as a nice breeze from a big box fan. Sorry to disagree.

You have ~18.5 deg slope on the roof of that run. That slope causes a natural updraft taking the hottest air out the top. If we were talking about a structure that had 4 solid walls, then I'd agree that making sure the air does not stagnate is a good idea. But you've got your birds in an outside, all wire run. Since they do not sweat, a breeze does them no good.

But hey -- if it makes you feel better - go for it :)

Oh that does make me feel better, thanks! And yes, I will keep the fan ;)

I'd say use a mister with the fan, but chickens are soooo unappreciative of that water. At least most of mine think I'm trying to kill them. The birds I sprayed down told me that the water drops tickle to much. The little ameraucana cockerel actually LIKES the water and will stand in it talking to me.

I've hosed down the metal roof of the shelter and the tarp on the other on hot days until the water runs off cool to help with the heat some. Probably doesn't help a lot but makes me feel like I'm doing something to help.

Well here is a little recap. I went to my nephews wedding. It was an AWESOME outdoor wedding with a Bald Eagle soaring over our heads, that's something you just can't plan! I didn't get much time to visit with the Nephew that was getting married but the little time we did get was good. I will be going back more now. I was also invited by the family of the bride to future "family events". And this prettymuch spells out the rest!

She is my sister, I thought I missed her.
Separated for so long, once reunited I realized I was all wrong.
She’s a looser, she’s a boozer.
She’s my mothers daughter but she doesn't act the way mom taught her!

So Im on another Thread about the English Orps and a lot of people back east put bottles of ice out for the birds when they are hot and also fans with ice in front. Then have decided the water on the birds might not do them any good but just raise the humidity which could cause them harm, but some have put low tubs for water and find some of the birds will stand in it to get cool.

Do the chicken have shade? If not try to drape somethin up for them and if your doing a fan try and have it come from shade so the air will be a little cooler.
Just a idea..

hi everyone
