Quote: When I have bullies I have multiple feed dishes.
When I have treats I throw them every where so everyone gets a chance.

If you are free ranging on 2 acres I can't imagine yours don't have what they need for winter.
Chickens may be dumber then a box of rocks sometimes but animals have a real good built in idea what they need to do for winter.
Only time that doesn't happen is when not enough food isn't available for wild animals some seasons.

I have read on here that they way things are said on this thread is passive-aggressive.

Just to clarify, there are rules of conduct and etiquette on this website that we are all supposed to live by while on here. If that comes off as passive aggressive then that is just the way it is.
I would gladly tell it like it is and not sugar coat it if I didn't think it would get me kicked off here eventually.
I am not a passive-aggressive person.
I have a mom that is and have worked very hard not to be. Including counseling.
In "real life" I will tell you what I think even if it is not the popular opinion.
I do have to get to know someone first to be that blunt. And I was also taught to be considerate and polite.
But with that said, the people I know personally on here are NOT passive-aggressive.

Just my thoughts and opinions. Nobody has to agree with it. But I wish we could stop bickering.
It gets really old, really fast.

Holy...uh, doodoo?! Tomorrow I am going to be picking up silkie babies from ChickSlick in Benton City!!! AND I got a message from Shyla that she will be coming towards my way and is willing to bring one of her silkie cockerals! I am soooo excited and a little freaked as I thought I was done for the year getting new birds! Silkies were the one exception to my decision to stop for the year!!! My flock is becoming increasingly "mixed"!! It gets complicated when you have several age groups. They are all under a year!!
In the main part of the coop I have 25wk olds, 15wk olds and 10wk olds. In the brooder we have 7wk, 6wk and one 4wk olds. Now the 2nd brooder will have new-news!! My hub has finally given up and told me to do whatever!
I think for the main coop I may switch to flock raiser to bump up the protein and then offer oyster shells for the 3 layers. I have been feeding Layena Omega-3 and sneaking chick start to the 10 & 15w/o but it's not easy to do as the older ones discover it and bully the others out of the way! Is Flock Raiser with oyster shell a good choice in my situation??? The layers are in no way near fat and I figure fall is around the corner so a little more chub may be helpful. They do range on 2cres of field and yard so they get good excercise.
Lol! Chicken math at it's best!

My DH has pretty much said the same thing!

I wasn't going to do any babies this year at all. I got a pair of started birds and hatched 17 babies this spring/summer.

Oh c'mon now. Clean up is a prob? Look, take a post hole digger (clamshell) if you have one. Dig a hole about 24" - 30" deep. Pour water, rat and all into the hole. Fill hole. End of cleanup/problem. No post hole digger, well you hav to get a shovel then, and thats more work.

Thankfully DH came through for me and dug the hole. Took less than 5 minutes because he's so strong.

(That's what I told him anyway.) I carried the bucket to him but he poured the whole mess right in and covered the hole in a hurry. Then he put a giant paving stone over the top of it so the chickens or dogs don't dig it up and bring the dead rat back to me.

Mama would not appreciate that gift.

Oh, how true it is! Oh my goodness - I can't even begin to tell you how amazed I am that my chickens can't figure out how to walk into their chicken tractor (where I keep food and water when they are out free-ranging) just because I changed the location of the tractor! They will walk back and forth, back and forth, just trying to find the entrance on the side - where it has been ever since they were really tiny.

I am going to try this! I like the idea of no chemicals that can hurt my chooks.

Just pour the works into the garbage can. The water will find it's way out!!!

post removed for stupidly not reading further before posting. Sorry!
Nothing to apologize for. I am the one who feels rather stupid.

X2! I didn't realize that you are in alot of pain most or all of the time.
Unfortunately yes. 24/7. I can not remember not being out of pain. I think it was a day in 1985- but don't quote me on it- and today is a very high pain day that meds are barely making a dent in.

Still no excuse for my behavior and I feel terrible. I know that I hate reading bickering and drama and not loving the fact that I did both today :(

Is it Friday yet???

Sheila :)
