Lol! Chicken math at it's best!Holy...uh, doodoo?! Tomorrow I am going to be picking up silkie babies from ChickSlick in Benton City!!! AND I got a message from Shyla that she will be coming towards my way and is willing to bring one of her silkie cockerals! I am soooo excited and a little freaked as I thought I was done for the year getting new birds! Silkies were the one exception to my decision to stop for the year!!! My flock is becoming increasingly "mixed"!! It gets complicated when you have several age groups. They are all under a year!!
In the main part of the coop I have 25wk olds, 15wk olds and 10wk olds. In the brooder we have 7wk, 6wk and one 4wk olds. Now the 2nd brooder will have new-news!! My hub has finally given up and told me to do whatever!
I think for the main coop I may switch to flock raiser to bump up the protein and then offer oyster shells for the 3 layers. I have been feeding Layena Omega-3 and sneaking chick start to the 10 & 15w/o but it's not easy to do as the older ones discover it and bully the others out of the way! Is Flock Raiser with oyster shell a good choice in my situation??? The layers are in no way near fat and I figure fall is around the corner so a little more chub may be helpful. They do range on 2cres of field and yard so they get good excercise.

Oh c'mon now. Clean up is a prob? Look, take a post hole digger (clamshell) if you have one. Dig a hole about 24" - 30" deep. Pour water, rat and all into the hole. Fill hole. End of cleanup/problem. No post hole digger, well you hav to get a shovel then, and thats more work.
Chickens may be dumber then a box of rocks sometimes but animals have a real good built in idea what they need to do for winter.
Quote: Me too! I swear I sometimes just stand there and look at them with my mought hanging open because I can't believe what I am seeing!
I guess loving them means accepting their shortcomings.![]()
I am going to try this! I like the idea of no chemicals that can hurt my chooks.Quote:Oh c'mon now. Clean up is a prob? Look, take a post hole digger (clamshell) if you have one. Thankfully DH came through for me and dug the hole. Took less than 5 minutes because he's so strong.(That's what I told him anyway.) I carried the bucket to him but he poured the whole mess right in and covered the hole in a hurry. Then he put a giant paving stone over the top of it so the chickens or dogs don't dig it up and bring the dead rat back to me.
Mama would not appreciate that gift.![]()

Just pour the works into the garbage can. The water will find it's way out!!!
Nothing to apologize for. I am the one who feels rather stupid.post removed for stupidly not reading further before posting. Sorry!
Unfortunately yes. 24/7. I can not remember not being out of pain. I think it was a day in 1985- but don't quote me on it- and today is a very high pain day that meds are barely making a dent in.X2! I didn't realize that you are in alot of pain most or all of the time.
