Nope, not kidding. In fact, it is not too early for your family to attend an AHS information night. We regularly got people whose kids were still in fifth or sixth grade, but they wanted to see what the environment was like, meet the staff and students, etc.
I managed flight crew training for a cargo airline in a former life, so I'm pretty familiar with CBTs. I have heard good things about the MS flight sim group from folks that worked there. We still use a custom version of Flight Sim for our Aviation Learning Center at the Museum of Flight, where I'm a part time educator. In fact, we should talk. I also work part time at a flight school at Boeing Field and would be happy to talk with you about your son and flying and so on.
Several peeps on here are pilots...Totalcolour, Kaneke (who I haven't heard from in ages!), me and Teva's DH is a skydiving instructor. Probably more I don't know about.
