Well got the Banty birds run all cleaned out today - Gave them their medicated water
Had my dad pick up some yogurt as well - They LOVED it.. hahaha was like a baby having their first B-Day cake, it was everywhere...lol

I just need to clean out their coop - but its a lil too hot in there for me to do that now, So I will this evening when it's a lil cooler..

Anyone know if there's a way to "sterilize" the ground from the Cocci parasite - or is there no way of getting around that, just curious... My mom thought of maybe can sterilize if there was a way.

Thanks Bunches for the help =) Hopefully we caught it in time - the bloody mess just started - I bout freaked out when I opened the coop & it looked like a massacre - checked for anything external - nothing.. thought maybe a baby baby got nabbed, nothing.. til while I was checking birds I saw the poo outside & figured it out... as I remembered the main symptom was the blood for it. So Thanks to u all - for insightful info on things to of remember that =)

*crossing fingers* that they'll be ok

You can't sterilize for it. You could kill maybe some. But it's futile. It's all over the place. Just treat them for the symptoms now and then let their own immune system take over. They do build immunities to it. Sometime if a different strain makes it onto your property or if they are stressed or somehow their immune system is suppressed cocci will kind of take over and make them sick. If you treated fast, they should be ok. How old are they?

I can't help but wonder..... IF VEGAN's eat "NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS" Where do ya draw the line. I mean think about NO ANIMAL products REALISTICALLY should also take out all fruits and veggies that require pollination. See if it weren't for the bees that pollinate then there would be NO FRUIT AND VEGGIES ! ! ! But then this is kind of like those who are against logging. I challenge them to convince me that they use NO PAPER products. And just for the record yes I believe in earth first ! We will log the other planets later !!!

And on a little different note. Do you all know that 2 years of no pollination man kind is essentially DONE ! ! ! DEAD ! ! !

And, on the pollination topic.... CR, I found a recent article that may be of interest to you and anyone else who is following the domestic bee situation. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nature/no-ban-on-pesticides-that-threaten-bees-8114020.html

Whew! Long day so far but it's been absolutely fantastic for the most part! Weather is HOT. This morning the whole fam got out of the house early and dropped Isaac (DH) off at his 4 hour long Work Hardening program through physical therapy in Puyallup. Since the fair opened today and was free entrance for 2 hours, I took the kids down by myself. Did I mention it was really hot there? LOL They simply have no concept of money either. It was really hard to keep explaining to them that we can only do FREE activities at the fair. They wanted rides and fair food and we did none of that, but they still enjoyed the goofy variety show we stood and watched for 10 minutes or so, and of course the "Barnyard" with the petting zoo inside. We walked through 4-H Cats, Horses, Poultry, and rabbits. They thought the silkies and Polish birds were hilarious...I did too! How do they even see around all those feathers?!

Then we snagged a disgusting McDonald's lunch during which all 3 of them complained of stomach aches and the diarrhea has already started. Craziness. I hate how their restrictions really limit our daily life. Oh well, they will be fine after a few good meals and some rest. Back to PT place where Isaac took over watching kids and I had my first appointment. I swear, I had given up on PT and any sort of rehab until this place. They actually knew what was wrong with me and immediately started a plan of action! Seriously people, if you need a place to go to diagnose and treat spine issues (my pain is in my arms but starts with weakness around my spine!), go to OSSR. Olympic Sports and Spine Rehabilitation. Everyone there is amazing and they really know how to help, as opposed to the 3 doctors and 3 specialists I have been to in the last 2.5 years for my condition.

Came home to 4 eggs already under a bird laying the 5th. Stayed in the run waiting for her egg and while I was wandering around straightening up, I happened to notice another egg in the doorway of the coop to the run??? Walked over and grabbed it confused as to why it was there. Thought "hmm, maybe I better check the coop" and went around to open the door; there was another egg in a little hen-made nest in the shavings by the man-door! WTH? So anyway, after Tilda laid her egg that made 7 eggs today, and the only current layer who didn't lay yet is Martha my EE. I hope she does today, that would be a record and would also be 8/8 layers; my Welsummer hasn't started yet.

Hi Friends,
We here at Uprising Seeds would like to wish you a very happy and bountiful harvest season! As the days get shorter and the nights cooler, our thoughts start to turn to garlic planting time...
We've been working with Kelleigh and family of Sowing Seeds Farm in the beautiful Methow valley of Eastern Washington to produce our seed garlic for several years now, and once again we are very proud to offer what we feel to be some of the highest quality seed in the market. New to us this year is an additional grower, Joe and family of Lakeview Organics of Kettle Falls, WA who is supplying our softneck, "Inchellium Red". We are thrilled to have this Slow Foods "Ark of Taste" variety back in stock this year and theirs is the most beautiful we have ever seen.
We have 5 excellent, tried and true varieties available this year ( http://uprisingorganics.com/seed-garlic/cat_52.html ), all in both small quantities and bulk sizes:
4 Hardnecks: Chesnok Red, Siberian, Music, and Rich's Red
and 1 Softneck: Inchellium Red
Supply is limited and likely to sell out, so be sure to order early!
Also, as many of you know, we are looking to buy farmland in northwest WA for a new permanent home for seed production, trialing, and breeding. We welcome all leads in our search. Details of what we are looking for can be found here.
Thanks so much for your support and we hope you are enjoying a wonderful growing season.
Best,
Brian, Crystine, Katy, Rio, and Rowan

These are my 3 ladies who are checking out the construction as we turn a garage into a MIL apartment in our house. We are moving my parents in with us. I will be needing more chickens as we generally get 2 a day from these 3 which unfortunately is not even enough for the 3 of us. We are still supplementing from the store.
The salt & Pepper one is Luna, the brown is Hermione and the red is Ginny. Luna is very friendly, Ginny pecks and attacks if anyone approaches any of the girls, and Hermione is usually off adventuring on her own. They freerange from about 10am to 6pm. We seem to be spending very little on feed as they eat bugs and grass and such all day long.

Sorry, I have no idea how to care for a frog, but this one is CUTE!!! Is there a reason you can't release it back to the wild?

It is in the wild - but my front yard isn't very wild. It sits on our porch and croaks. I don't think it knows where to go. I wanted to take it somewhere were it would have a better chance at surviving, but DH insisted that we shouldn't move it in case it had family living near by.

Don't frogs need a pond? I wonder how this thing has survived in my front yard for so long.

Cute! When my girls go into our garage, they're looking for stray packing peanuts to eat.

I'm guessing that Hermione is a black star, judging by the red on her chest in the picture. They're a great cross. Mine have had hawk faces; they look so intense. Also, welcome to BYC!

It's a tree frog. The girls can get up to 2" long. They don't need standing water. I often have several around my yard in the summer, girls and boys. Frogs don't stick around family, although males will carve out a territory and call to defend it during the summer. If you take her to the cliff area and release her she will be fine.

Just a note, it is illegal to keep any WA wildlife as pets. If you have any non-native reptile pets (I know you don't, but I want to mention this) it's a very bad idea to take any natives into your house and then release them back into the wild. You may well be releasing a disease that will wipe out the local fauna. When I was more active in the local herpetological society, we often ran into problems when someone would give us "pet" tree frogs that they had kept for a while. They are illegal to keep and illegal (and unethical) to release.

Thank you! That's good to know. I wasn't sure if I was going to have to come up with an emergency pond or something.

And, no - the frog has not been in my house. Yuck! I think they are cute outdoors, but I wouldn't want one. I had put some helmets outside on my front porch in hopes I'd remember to give them to Jessica - and the frog decided they would be a good home. The garden house I replaced the helmets with is an outside ornament, as well.

The frog is out and about right now. I moved the little toad house beneath a Japanese Maple tree. Hopefully, it will find a home down there instead of hanging out on my porch that gets hit by some pretty strong sun in the morning. If we see it again, we'll move it to the cliff.

Thanks again for helping me understand what to do with her. I'm sure, with your explanation, my husband will be fine with moving her to the cliff.

What I would do, if confronted with that situation, is take the frog to the area you were considering and tell DH that it probably went home to its family. That sort of thing is classified as a 'benign deception.' I think Roald Dahl came up with that one.
