On a better note, how is everyones chickens today?
I am really bumbed that I can't make the meet up tonight but I guess I will just have to arrange one one of these days durring the week and school hours. Any one up here (north enders or those willing to drive up here.) PM me if you are interested in a meet up durring school hours and we can see what we can come up with.

Everyone have a great night.

My hens were doing quite well when I checked on them earlier. Still no eggs from my Leghorn pullets.

And I'm wondering what the heck is going on right now with our pecking order! I've got hens mounting each other and humping just like roosters! It seems as though our little blue mutt has muscled her way to the top of the heap, which makes me sad because our Welsummer has always been the leader and she's much nicer about it!

Hey, so I know that things are settling down now, but I just wanted to point out for anyone unaware of this, but religion is one of the things they specifically suggest AGAINST discussing on BYC, and I think we've all seen why that is now. Here's a quote from the rules:

Regarding "Freedom of Speech":
This is a very interpretable statement. BYC does NOT support "freedom of speech" in the traditional sense. You can not come on this forum and talk about adult topics, porn, drugs, hate speech, etc. We also don't allow PETA or Cock Fighting topics and discourage religious and political topics. BYC was not established as a forum of freedom of expression... there are other forums out there that allow this, but I promise 99.3% of you won't like them as much as you like BYC (for the .7% that do, they usually end up being unhappy here and some get banned).

Just a suggestion, to keep our thread the way we want it, OPEN, maybe those of us who either made religious statements, or quoted the same, might want to go back and delete or edit those posts, before everyone gets reported and the whole thread gets shut down for clean up....

That's funny, because many/most of the users I see on here have religious text in their signatures. For the record, religion was first brought up back on page 8368, and not by me. All I was trying to do was defend myself against someone who was pushing their religion onto others.

As far as politics go, I don't come here to discuss politics. However, I think most (not all) BYC members have never experienced true poverty, and that lack of experience is often reflected in the advice given about various topics. And most people who have never experienced true poverty fail to acknowledge the strangle hold poverty has on many Americans. As a poor person, I get pretty upset when people imply that poverty is simply a choice that could be avoided. It's not political. It's personal.

Thanks! And my mom's life is wonderful now! In May, we moved her into a Continuing Care Retirement Facility in Oregon where she will live the rest of her life. Her apartment is beautiful. The amenities are AMAZING! Before we moved her there, we checked the floors with the higher levels of care and they were extremely clean, smelled wonderful and the staff was great. Everyone who lives there loves it. Many of the people who live there live well into their 90s. They currently have 2 residents who are over 100. For the first time ever, my mom radiates joy and feels safe. I'm so happy for her.

Because of my life experiences, I have a completely different view on many things in life. Honestly, I wouldn't trade it. When I work with youth through Scouts, I can relate to many more kids than I would be able to had I not had the experiences I have had.

Just want to join the choir that I am very glad your mom is doing so well! I worry to death about mine. She's only 58 now but it's unclear how she's going to take care of herself in the coming decades.

And I know what you mean about not trading your experiences with poverty. I'm glad I didn't have to experience it as a child, but as an adult, it has definitely made me stronger. I have figured out so many new ways to have fun! Things that really reflect who I am! Like chickens!

And I have to have my own identity now, I can't just go out and by something and pretend that it gives me a personality, LOL. I grew up middle class, but like many middle class Americans of my generation (I'm 30), poverty has taken hold on my life and there is no foreseeable way out unless our nation changes drastically. Seems like there are practically zero available jobs, none that actually pay a living wage, going back to school is way too expensive while loans and grants are drying up like crazy, and it's not like there'd be a guaranteed job even if I did have a college degree. The bohemian life is fun for now, but the future looks grim. It's hard to stay apolitical on BYC or anywhere else when poverty is affecting half the citizens of the wealthiest nation on Earth.

I'll be honest, I didn't really understand your last post at all. Totally confused! I'm familiar with the Urban Dictionary, but neither my username nor my signature text have anything to do with it. I picked my user name because I live in an urban area and I'm enthusiastic about chickens.

WOW!

Really!? Just move on everyone please! :smack

So I took DD to the doc yesterday.... go figure! She has GI issues! My poor baby!

Oh and another go figure moment!!! Miss Daffy is molting....AGAIN!!!! Yes that means that the feathers are flying at my house! :rant She is sooo lucky that we love her or duck pate would be on the menu!! :lau

So I'm thinking that this might be a bad time of year to try and sell a trio of ducks! Hmmmm...... :he
