Hello~~ I just joined here yesterday and someone in my introduction thread pointed me this way.

I'm a bit floored by the over 8000 pages in this thread, so please excuse me if I don't read the entire thing.

Although I grew up in SE Michigan, I have lived in WA for the better part of 5 years now and I consider this to be my permanent home. I moved out this way when I was just shy of 20 to live with my (then) boyfriend. We've since gotten engaged and worked our way up to buying our first home. :> It's all in the process right now. Hence why I decided to join here, I'd sure like to have my own small flock of chickens.

Jump in and hold on -- we move fast. Never worry about trying to read all the posts. If someone needs ya they will make sure you get a PM.

Welcome :)

Mom's on prescription 10,000 iu vitamin D3. It's helped her a lot on everything. She was super low. Even taking the prescription stuff she's still not really got enough in her bloodstream. The doctor keeps an eye on that when she has her checkups. Mom lives over on the east side of Oregon by Hermiston, so sun isn't as much of an issue as it is here. My doctor here has me on 4000 iu and I'm outside in what we have of sun a lot. She told me the low absorption is probably a hereditary issue, since many in my family have low D levels. Taking the D helps me sleep and function with less depression.

If I have a hen who is laying an egg a day and seems healthy, but she is substantially smaller than the rest of her hatch-mates, should I be concerned? She's dramatically smaller than her sister as well; Ethel = 3.5lbs and Lucy = 5.3lbs

The only girl her size is Princess (3.5lbs) and she's only 11 days younger. I'm a bit concerned about her weight, hence the reason I weighed them all in the first place. I don't think she's gained a single ounce in 2 months. She's 24 weeks old. HELP! (Should I worm her just in case?)

Birds bread to lay eggs are smaller and lighter than dual purpose. Maybe this one's got some leghorn in her? Is Ethel an EE? My EE's are smaller than my RIRs and Wyandottes.

Oh boy, I've created a monster. My son discovered that I was sneaking into the closet in our bedroom and checking the eggs. Now he insists on being along each time. I have to keep the door firmly shut (it has a lock on the knob), in case he sneaks in there on his own and messes with the incubator. In the past hour he has come to me three times wanting to check on them! I took him in there twice. We walk back together, he turns on the closet light for me and turns on the flashlight. (He's 25 months old.) We look at the eggs and I read the numbers off the thermometer and hygrometer. I'm hoping that he loses some interest when he figures out that I am *not* going to open the incubator up and let him mess with the eggs! He now pays a lot more attention to the bulk eggs in the grocery store and the carton on our fridge.

I expect that when/if the eggs hatch, he's going to be dragging me into the basement 20 times a day to check on the chicks! Oh well. I got into this hoping he would take an interest. I think it's working! LOL

I was the same way. Had a full panel done and my stores for calcium, iron, and D were ZERO. My naturepath was shocked! This was right after I weaned my youngest, so I had been either pregnant OR nursing for 5.5 years. Those babies took everything they needed, thank goodness, but left my health at nil. Currently I'm taking:
Morning:
2 5-HTP
2 Fish Oil Capsules
1 Women's Multivitamin
1 10,000 iu Vitamin D3

Evening:
2 5-HTP
2 Fish Oil Capsules
1 Calcium + Magnesium
1 5,000 iu Vitamin D3

My numbers are ever so slowly creeping up. Last time was tested for iron it was back up to a high (for me) of 12. Still can't give blood. Guess I gave enough to those babies though.

I can't wait for a full panel again so I can see if all the D and Calcium are helping my stores. I do know I feel much better on the supplements, plus my Shakeology every morning (which I highly recommend).

Maybe that is my problem

I was pregnant and/or breastfeeding from July 2000 until July 2008.

OMG! Migraine - coming on fast. I have to lead an entire Pack of boys this evening. My husband won't be there to help me, either. The other Den leaders will be gone because their school has a parent orientation. I feel like

I am available to help if you need it. Besides putting the garbage out tonight, I don't have anything else going on right now.
