Oh, yum! Shoot! I had blueberries, too, that I could have mixed in. I already baked a blackberry pie before I got back on here and saw this. Guess I'll have to go pick some more blackberries, eh?

Maybe the 2nd time around, I'll manage to back it without the top getting so dark.

What we need is a meetup at the auction sometime in advance...LOTS of advance planning. My DS has football games for the next 6 Saturdays at 10am in Kent. The very next weekend I could come, and I plan to! I'll throw out a date for that several weeks ahead of time and hopefully more people can come; I am so sad I couldn't make it last weekend nor can I come this weekend :(

I'm right there w/ya Jess!! We have football and soccer to schedule around. I'm really bummed I missed last weekends meetup and now I'm gonna miss this one too. Bummer....

Hi Again everyone :) I just finnished reading "most" of all the post i was behind on....
So cool you all got to meet up at the Auction... funny thing is I think we were there that day LOL... But I had no idea you all were there.. Funny how things go. We were only there for a little bit because I ended up not feeling well and we left.

A BIG Thank You!!!!! to everyone that posted well wishes to me.. Was very nice to read them. You all are too cool. My brother actually has been sending my nephew over each day to help out with chores and I had a friend that has been helping me out too. Seems my head wasn't as hard as I thought and I ended up with swelling and pressure in places it didnt belong. Im mending now and will be ok. Dr said headaches will lessen and vision will be fine in a bit of time:)

Hubby has banned me from any more climbing..... Grrrrrrrrrrrr Oh well once Im better and he is at work What he dont know wont............. heheheeehee. 36 years of climbing ladders, haystacks, and walls in this barn and one fall and now he thinks Im dangerous... Gheesh LOL Heheehehee.

Im gonna try and post some pictures of my new little one they are growing so much.. Im loving the coloring so far.. Would love to show you all and see what ya think :)

Take Care All

I need help...my girls are not cooperating!! Hahaha, like that's news, right?! Lol

I have 5 LF hens that are all of egg laying age. Some are laying, some maybe are not?? I'm not really sure how many are actually laying because my girls treat the nesting boxes like they have the plague! I have 1 hen that will lay in the boxes if they are locked in the chicken house 24/7 for a few days in a row but as soon as they are let out she forgets all about the box. The other eggs will be laid on the floor if they are even laid at all. Other then that, they lay out in the chicken yard under blackberry bushes and stinging neetles...boy oh boy it's fun to get eggs outta those nests!
barnie.gif
Stinging neetles are not called "stinging" for kicks n giggles let me tell ya!
I have tried some of the tricks I've heard about to encourage them to lay in the boxes, like placing golf balls in the boxes, locking them in the chicken house, putting one of their eggs in the box, setting the hens in the boxes, trying different types of bedding......nope, not workin!

Any other ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Try curtains. You'd be amazed at how much they help. I had girls that would not go into any of the five nextboxes because someone else was in one of the boxes - so they'd just yell at the other to get out.

Now that I have curtains on the nest boxes - there will be multiple birds hiding in their own box.

You may also want to add more dark hidey-holes for your birds to go in. I also put curtains around an old recycle bin - stuffed in a corner of the yard where I know to check. I get at least an egg a day in that nestbox.

PS - I got really cute chicken curtains at the local Value Village for $5 for three sets! And then I got the spring-loaded curtain rods so I can move the curtains in and out - wash, etc. at Fred Meyers - they were about $5 per rod.

Quote: Your husband is saying that out of his love for you.
Now he needs to realize there are different kinds of love.
Meaning the faith in you that the next time you will now realize the seriousness of what happened and the consequences your concentration will be ramped up so much more that the next time you won't fall because you are smarter now.

Being in construction for 30 years I have fallen many times.
I have had scaffolding go through floor vents that the builder used cheap wood or failed to cover them and my got to get the job done go go go attitude cost me a ride over the side.
Since I don't walk my scaffolding anymore due to knee pain from scooting it up on top I always can see where the wheels go now moving it from the floor.
That is one example of many over the course of 30 some years.

As time goes on you get smarter and realize there is a difference between working in high gear and being on the floor.

Just like you now will remember each time you go back up a ladder or what ever it is you climb.

I understand your husbands concerns but he also needs to realize loving you involves having faith in your abilities to adapt to what has happened to you.

Well there were 300+ posts to read so I skimmed threw some of them and gave up. Hope I didn't miss anything to important.
Looks like ya'll had a great time this weekend meeting at the auction, I really wish I could have gone but weekends are a no go for me. Oh well, I hope to meet everyone at some point.

CR- What a great day for your DW to be able to not only remember where her home was but for it to still be there for her to be able to re visit those memories!

Well we have been devistated with a large scale attack on my chickens
th.gif
. This morning my SIL and I went out to do rounds and found feathers, blood and body parts every where
hit.gif
. I am missing about 11 hens, 5 of which were just begining to check out nest boxes to begin laying. I can't even really think strait right now. What makes it worse is that I have been drawing up plans to build an inclosed run for the girls this week because they had all decided to lay out in the bushes some where and I was only getting 3 eggs a day for the last week. (DD found one clutch of 20 eggs from all different girls but after we took them no one has laid there again) I wanted to at least keep them in the run for half the day to incurage laying in the boxes again or at least make the search area smaller and not have to look threw 7 acres of bushes. For the next week I will be busy building, then when I finnish I will be on the look out for more girls eather just about to lay up to a year old (that is all the ages I lost). If any of you are selling girls or know some one who is please PM me and let me know.

I am not sure what it was that did this, normaly if it is a cyote there are only feathers and I have been taking my dogs out every day to mark around the property. I have not seen nor heard any signs of cyotes lately, but have been noticeing two new cats and the neighbors dogs have now been run off my property 3 times in the last week. I warned this neighbor several times that her dogs can not be on my property and the last time I told her that I would send both my dogs out after her's. So the other day we were out an her dogs came on my property again
somad.gif
so I sent the boys out and they were happy to ablige. My boys ran after her's and cought them just before they got off the front property, neighbor was even standing out on the street. I WALKED out to find her yelling at my dogs because the good boys that they are had hers pinded to the ground by their necks, just holding them there. I reminded her the warning I had given her before and she said, "my dogs were not on your property, they were out here on the street with me" I told her no they were not because I saw them and sent my boys after yours. She huffed and walked away. With all that I am leaning more twards it being her dogs that did it but have no way of proving it, and there for no way of haveing her replace my losses.

I am going to go out and do another head count, I'll let ya'll know the final number.

Oh what a sad thing!!! I'm so sorry for your losses and hope some of the missing girls are found, and that they aren't all dead. How horrible! I hope you can find out who did it so maybe you can take actions against her, that's just awful. I'm sick reading that. You did the right thing sending your dogs out though; what a crazy neighbor to allow her dogs to run loose!

Right now I'm seriously thinking about finding a way to make the gates of my chain link more secure because we have some really trashy (trust me, I'm not "pre-judging" anyone...they've shown their colors) neighbors who just moved in across the street and they have a little jerk of a mutt who won't stay out of our front yard. He's constantly in our driveway and when the girls are free ranging, anyone can see them through the chain link in the driveway or from the street. It's only a matter of time before Mr. Priceless (yup, REAL name...true story) gets through the skinny cracks in our gate and decimates my girls. I'm so nervous lately and always check to see if they are home and if they are I take major precautions and watch the flock well while they're out. It's gonna be hell to pay if that dog comes in my yard and kills any of my girls though.

Does anyone happen to know if it's legal to shoot a dog who is attacking my own animal on my own property? Because if so, I plan to keep my gun on top of the refrigerator in case of any incidents.
