I need to find one of my temp guns and check out the hot spots. I moved the heat lamp in the foreground up, but they are still mostly hanging out on the far end. They really like the ceramic heat emitter, they took a little nap under there after I moved them in.
So far, so good. My husband held one of them! He's been supportive of my new mania, even though he has some idea of how much the coop and run are costing. But then, I told him that if he watched our 2 year old for an hour after he gets home from work, I could do a lot more of the construction, and he wasn't too keen on that idea. He does watch him on weekends for several hours so I can help Lamont with the build.
By the way, should I leave the light on 24 hours, or are they okay with a smaller hot spot at night? I can set the light up on a timer and leave the CHE on all the time, although once all the eggs hatch I may need both.
My white Leghorn is limping. She is sitting a lot, still eating and drinking like normal. When standing she holds her leg up. No visible injuries or sores, no redness, no black spot on the bottom. Do I just wait and see if she gets any better? She was not limping yesterday, and I don't *think* she was limping this morning. I saw her around noon'ish and I noticed she was acting strange, but I couldn't investigate right then. Help! She's my favorite hen!
If anyone cares, Blanche is doing better. She started to put weight on her leg again yesterday, rather than hopping around on one foot. She still has a bit of a limp but is clearly doing better. She has laid only one egg since then, and she laid one that morning that I posted about her leg. So only 2 eggs in 4 1/2 days.

Oh I'm so happy to hear that! I was worried you'd lose a bird like me and feeling pretty down. Don't worry, as she gets better eggs should pick up!
I have a question about new hen acquisitions: I've had Willow, a blue EE, for 11 days and she hasn't laid an egg yet, though she was laying before I brought her home. Her friend the Marans laid an egg the day after we brought her here, and has laid probably 7 eggs in 11 days; she's pretty reliable! I'm worried about the EE. How long should I expect this egg strike to last?

Thank you! but I need a very specific size and in good shape to use in the house.... 30" by 80"
I've been trying to find a all glass door like that one (but not left outside for possible damage) for my hall way door since my hallway is so dark and almost claustrophobic. Then I can take my hallway door and move it to replace the bathroom door.
I saw that and started drooling till I read the "been outside awhile" = translation to "got some damage"
Then I thought what a awesome coop door that would be and posted here
