Here's an idea for that chicken dinner for small families.
Corn on the cob, as everyone knows goes very well but what a pain in the butt to prepare. Try this.
Take a fresh ear of corn or two (DO NOT HUSK THE CORN) and place in a glass pie plate and stick it in the micro. Cook 2 min on high and rotate to other side and cook for about 2 min (depend on your micro).
Take out of micro (with oven mitts). cut off bottome of corn. Grasp the tassel, silk and all and squeeze like a tube of toothpaste. Cob will slide out with out any silk/hair on it. Cut it as you wish and serve.
Also makes a great snack.
(corn steams from its own moisture content and leaves can be harvested for tamales.)
Try it, you'll like it. I promise
HUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You already made me go out and buy a big pork tenderloin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hawks don't seem to bother my big girls. I don't have any plans for more babies this year except the seven Bantams that are due to hatch on Saturday from your buckeye. I do have some cover area where my DD ducks were. that's were the rest of the babies ran too. they have learned that they can get under the barn too
Keep the babies in their own covered area sweetheart !!!!
No rooster will defend babies, he will only defend the breeders, and then only some roosters are dumb enough to sacrifice for breeders either.....depends on age & breed.

Quote: No, we don't have to soak it in hot water or anything. I can take it out of the drawer, lay it on the counter and put an ice cube in it, and the ice cube melts immediately into the shape of the scoop. It's awesome!

DH is much better after the root canal, and got some major pain relief Sunday/Monday for no real reason, but it's great he didn't have to drug up for the whole time he waited.
Quote: If you're insinuating I'm stupid because I'm still fairly new, that's pretty rude. BEFORE I got my chickens I read 10 different chicken books to decide on breeds and how to house and feed them; I ask questions here if I'm having trouble making simple decisions AFTER I research on my own. I might be green, but I've fed them a diet entirely of chicken crack for their entire first 21 weeks of life. That's pretty bad. Perhaps I just need to focus on making dinner now.

I have all my water IN the coops in winter.
NONE have ever come close to freezing.

Yeah it was COLD

Easy, and cleaned once a week to keep the nasty bio film and staph OFF the watering appliance.
The Ameraucanas are the worst at snorting & washing their faces/beards in the water and making a nasty mess...you can see how water was FLUNG.
ALL water bowls, fonts & appliances need to be sterilized & cleaned weekly.

I am so glad he is better !
And I have never had a ice cream scoop that worked unless I soaked it in hot water first...like CR said, a heat sink aluminum one.

P.S. I want to know what brand ice cream scoop this is....and where you bought it, DH wants one !!
