Sorry to say, but I'm sure DH won't be giving up any chick that was hatched today if it is a girl.

Yay! He's their new chicken mama! He did a fantastic job, saved the day, and was videotaping his new babies' every movements when I walked in the door. My friend was totally teasing him about his chicken mama status when we got home. It was pretty funny.

Quote: They have a way of winning guys over, don't they?

My DH swore/swears he doesn't like them. But every time he's in the backyard, Laya, one of our Easter Eggers, is always following him around talking to him. When I watch closely, I can see he talks back to her. Then one day she followed him across the bridge, did yard work with him, jumped on his shoulder and gave him a big snuggle against his cheek! He put her down and finished his work and on the way back across the bridge he stopped and let her catch up, picked her up and snuggled her and carried her around the yard a while. Yeah...don't try to tell me you don't like her honey, that's nonsense

OK so here is a little recap of our trip to the PNPA show in Salem. On the way down while stopped at a rest area I managed to score an unsecured aluminum truck wheel !

All of my stuff was well washed by the time we got there. The facility was just fantastic in my opinion. I will say that from the sales point, this was the lowest I have ever had at a PNPA show. That has nothing to do with the club. there were a lot of factors and we know that it is always a gamble!! I see some great potential for this show in this location. It just may take a couple times to get the word out.

I did get a chance to meet a few of you newer peeps.

and had hopes of meeting more. Please keep in mind the WFF show coming up in Chehalis in Nov. It looks like I will also be there as a vendor.
I did pick up a couple custom orders and a few more "potential" custom orders.

Made it home safely with Kims new babies. As I wlked back to the trailer to check on her babies I heard a noise and when I checked I found that one of the trailer tires has picked up a screw. Lucky me I made it home before ruining another trailer tire!!

Oh and Yoda included the show in his travels too!!!!

Thanks Jessica for passing the word along. Thank you to everyone for helping us learn through this hatching process. What an emotional roller coaster!

Well, I'm proud to announce that Chicken Rustler's Salmon Faverolles "Fudge" is a Papa! We have FOUR energetic little chicks trying to establish a mini pecking order. 2 pipped last night. All 4 hatched today. I was not here to witness the hatching, and my husband saved the day for the last one to hatch. Two other chicks managed to push a broken shell over the last to hatch and the pipped and partially zipped egg was trapped. DH steamed up the bathroom, took the incubator in, removed the two energetic little chicks and their left-over egg shells that were trapping the last one to hatch, allowing "Chirpy" to finally get zipped out after 18 hours since s/he first pipped.

CR... do the descriptions below give you any idea of who the mothers may be?

EGG "A" - First to pip, first to hatch... the olive egg: black chick with 5 toes on each foot. No visible feathers on the legs yet. The kids named him/her "Blackie."

EGG "D" - Last to pip, second to hatch... the brown heavily speckled egg: dark mottled chick, white chest, white spot on top of his head, white wing tips, feathered legs, 4 toes. The kids named him/her "Fuzzy."

EGG "E" - Third to pip, third to hatch... white egg: yellow chick, 5 toes with lots of feathers on feet. The kids named him/her "Softie."

EGG "C" - Pipped at the same time as the first, last to hatch about 18 hours later. Needed to have extra eggshells that got pushed on top of his/her egg removed in an emergency extra eggshell procedure in a hot, steamy bathroom... brown, less-mottled egg: dark mottled chick, white chest, white spot on top of head, white wing tips, feathered legs, 4 toes, looks very similar to "Fuzzy" except has a much more distinct comb. The kids named him/her "Chirpie" because s/he is LOUD. Came out last and let the world know all about it.

After "Chirpie" is finished drying, it is going to be very difficult to distinguish him/her from "Fuzzy.

The remaining olive egg"B" is still in the incubator. We don't expect it to be viable because it never developed an air pocket.

Below... "Fuzzy" - 2nd to hatch must be missing his/her egg. Gonna make it difficult to eat out of that dish. "Softie," the yellow chick, sacked out under the heat lamp.

My kids named the chicks before I got home from Vancouver.

I wanted one to be named "Chocolate Fudge" and another to be named "Vanilla Fudge". I'll have to see if I can convince the kids to rename them.

Woohoo, congratulations! They're so cute, all worn out.

I'm glad your experience turned out well in the end. Please keep posting pics!

I like the honey idea for staying on meats better on the grill. Thought some of you might want this............................
http://howellshomestead.blogspot.com/

Honey Barbecue Sauce

1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup local honey(you can sub. cane syrup, or maple as well)
1 medium chopped yellow onion or 4 tablespoons minced
2 tablespoons chilli powder
2 tablespoons paprika
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
1 teaspoon minced garlic or 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 teaspoon tomato paste or ketchup
1 tablespoon hot sauce optional

Just add all the ingredients in a saucepot on medium heat, and let cook, stirring occassionally until it is the thickness you want. Don't be afraid to tweak the ingredients to your personal liking, this is a difficult recipe to mess up! I have added everything from lemon juice for a bit more tang, to extra honey, and it always turns out great! It is soooo very delicious to make baked beans using this sauce. I like to make it thin for meats on the grill. With the honey, it sticks really well instead of all just sliding off the meat into the coals, so a little goes a long way! I hope those of you who try this enjoy it as much as we do. My family won't let me buy sauce anymore, they want the homemade "good stuff." That's the best compliment a cook can get : )
