DW got 6 ducks the same time I got my chicks. First off they really grow super fast. OMG they are messy! Do they require water when we put them in there house for the night? How about food?

I always have food and water available avaiable to my ducks day and night- At night they can get too hot- especially in the summer months. Some people do leave their ducks without food and water at night because of the mess. How old are they?

Either put cookie sheets under them or get one of those raised floor mats for boots at Walmart. BTW ducks eat and drink as much at night as in the day. They need it.

I have been withholding food and water at night from my 8 week old pekings. They continue to put themselves into the house at night and in the morning they have fresh food and water. At night here it gets down to 26-40 degrees this past week. They seem to prefer the security of the house to the pond and feeder.

wow. I never thought about not giving my ducks water at night. When they were much smaller, I kept them in a bunny cage on my desk in my office.. had to fill that mason jar waterer like 20 times a day, lol.. Now they have a rubber bowl.. they empty that pretty quick too.

The thought of not having water in their house is appealing to me since it cuts down on the wetness and mess inside their house, but I don't know.. I can't do that to them.. what if they get thisty and need water. I'm thinking of cutting a square hole in the side of the dog house that's their house and attaching an outdoor feeding area that's closed off.. as it is now, they're locked in at night and free range all day

At 13 weeks old, they DEFINITELY do not need food and water at night! The easiest way, by far, to keep a duck coop relatively clean is to keep food and water out of it.

Clean the coop out, rebed it with fresh shavings, put the food and water in the run, and you will find duck keeping much more manageable-- your coop will stay far cleaner for much longer.
