I bought new water cups to replace a couple that broke from old age.
The float in theses new cups are at the top of the cup, instead of towards the bottom of the old cups. This is causing the cup to fill all the way to the top with water, so every time the chickens drink from the cup it overflows.
What can I do to fix this problem ?

If you would post a pix of your setup, it would be easier to answer. Couple options:
Get same as your old style ones.
Possibly change the angle the cups are mounted. This would create a different water level in those small cups.:idunno Chickens would insert beak to drink, without overfilling water level.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and :highfive:

With my cups I have to make sure nothing is under them keeping them from lowering to shut water off.

The left picture is the cup the waterer came with, the right picture is the replacement.
I didn't know there was more the one kind of water cup.

I have the Oasis cups and if they can not lower from the weight of the water they will drain the bucket. Does yours have a spring that is stuck?

I'm inclined to think/suspect that new cup is defective. Whatever is there to seat, and stop more water from flowing, must be not sealing properly.

I am going to pick up a new one at the Farm Store tomorrow and replace the overflowing one and see if the fixes the problem.

Are those actual floats.....or spring loaded trigger with a rubber ringed seal?

They were floats. No matter what my DH tried, all 4 overflowed. I sent them back. I took the cup that came with the waterer and took it apart and soak it in vinegar. This seem to take all the mineral deposits off and then it worked again.
I have found out that there are two types of cups. they ones the chickens have to peck at to fill the cup, and no peck kind.
