Water for hen and chicks

Do I need to put marbles in the waterer? I have the small plastic water dispenser, with the bottle that screws in. It’s inside the coop, not in the run, because I’ve always kept it close to my hen while she was broody. I heard a baby chick chirping underneath her today, so I added marbles to the waterer so the chick doesn’t crawl over and drown. Will the marbles bother my hen though?

I personally wouldn't put any in mine, but to each their own.

I put marbles in when there is a chick or duckling having trouble finding their feet the first couple days (hatched in incubator), but usually not.

I never used marbles, haven't had any casualties.

I've never used marbles. I also use one of those small plastic jar type waterers which I figure is fairly shallow and not easy for chicks to crawl into anyhow.

The only chick that died here was severely deformed and couldn't move normally when it arrived from the hatchery. otherwise, I haven't had issues with bantam chicks, or larger chicks, and the one gallon plastic waterers.
