♡Ducks♡, enough said.
This all started over a woman questioning why get ducks always get their water dish muddy.
Someone replied with "if you can't take care of your animals you shouldn't have them".
It then escalated into the creator of the page stating:
That statement is absolutely true that if you will not take care of your ducks you should not have them. However, telling someone this without first trying to help solve their problem and I am going to say something FAST!
I am going to answer Laura ******** question first. Yes, they literally dump into the water. This is why I wanted the first part replied because this is going to take a little explaining to answer.
Once ducks are right about 8-10 weeks old, they start carrying water full time in the crop. Up until this point they have always direct washed and rinsed the crop which is where all the baby smacking and water mess comes from. They swallow it and throw it up to rinse before actually drinking.
When they start carrying the water in the crop, this water is not for drinking and this water is why no oral medication has any effect on a duck whatsoever unless it is flooded which with most things becomes toxic.
They need dunking stations to be able to rinse this water when their body tells them it is becoming putrid. This is one of the reasons they even need water at night. They have to be able to dump and replace at will.
This is one of the tightening down on rules as telling someone something harmful is against the rules and locking ducks up at night without water and recommending it is both bad for ducks and illegal in the US.
Attached is a photo and it can be a five gallon bucket or many things with simply a couple, I would not do four like in this picture, of holes they can stick their head and neck into without being able to squeeze into the container with water deep enough they can dunk their heads and wash out completely. This is a watering station and is the water that must be maintained clean and is much easier to do so than a kiddie pool because you can even dump what is in this into the kiddie pool when you are done.
Unless you have a natural waterway be it natural pond, lake, stream, creek, river to which they have full time access, this is what you need to maintain above all else.
THIS will limit mess and keep animal control off of you!
Now, I am getting back into I tell you KNOW YOUR LAWS! Do NOT recommend taking actions that are against the law or say that you break the law! You are only reporting ourself and causing an argument!
For the person specifically above, this is how you meet animal control's needs and requirements because this time was a warning and next time they come and have you on record as having come before, they will be much harder and that gets legal.
Statement done
I get that this guy was trying to explain his reasoning of why he believes they should have water at night, but spreading completely wrong info is a problem. And as soon as I corrected him he booted me.
