Water question chlorinated softened water.

We have city water which is heavy chlorinated. Smells like pool water at times.
Plus it's hard water so we use a softener.
Is the city water ok?
Plus should I also be using the water before the softener cause I've read chickens have problems with salt.

Our another option would be:
We do have reverse osmosis for our drinking water should the chicks get that water instead?

What would the best option be?
New to chickens just looking for what is best for them.

Salt free is the way to go, doesn't matter which one you choose. For the chlorine, no worries. Just let it sit with the top open in the sun for 4 hours and it will evaporate out. Or let it sit in a bucket or watering can in the sun then fill up the waterers.
