waterballoon crops-Update, cochin and oegb gone, Pansy needs help.

Pansy is still holding on. Comb tips are blue but he is walking and drinking. I'm wondering if he ate some of the shavings from a few days ago and it had stopped him up somewhere. He has pooed twice but they were small, thin, and mostly water. Crop does not smell and will go down. I am withholding food and water for a bit to give it a chance to go down and will try some oil and massage. Any other suggestions?

Withheld water for 5 hours and crop went down. He has perked up some and had a little yogurt and a few sips of "soup" made of medicated water, crushed starter, and a little more yogurt but still no real interest in eating. Has pooed several times, a few smelly cecal I think. Very little blood in poo now so I think the cocci treatment is working. he is in a basket beside me and alternates between sleeping and escaping. Any ideas on stimulating his appetite? Or ideas on moving things along to clear his system? I feel like if I could get some nutrition into him he might have a fighting chance.

The best success I have had in getting food and moisture into a sick end-stage bird was by using Exact baby parrot food. They have it at any chain pet store in a bag or a round container in the bird aisle. It's used by adding water and feeding with a syringe you'll need to buy in the same spot.

It's hard to get the to taste it, but once they do, they'll eat it like crazy! I also mixed it with yogurt and water, and used it with olive oil in it for a crop problem with a bird once.

I always use it for sick adults or chicks now, as it's so tasty and high in nutrition- It's they only guaranteed way I have to administer meds, etc. They eat it with gusto!

Best of luck!

The nice thing about that is that it has living probiotics in it, and because the bird is an adult, you don't have to make it hot - just warm. It's absolutely chock full of nutrients. If you buy it, keep it in the fridge so it lasts longer. Great stuff! You don't even need to add yogurt.

I have some in the fridge from before but was reluctant to use it because of the cocci. I got him to drink a few drops of it, he really fought me on it. Will try again in a few minutes. Thanks all.

Adding protein can be a concern with cocci, yes. Using a little however would give him a nice probiotic boost. Then just use regular crumbles to make the bulk of what he needs to eat.

Really any time you get a med, you don't want to mix anything else with it in the water. It won't make them explode, but it's just risking it. The ACV can be used afterwards to get them back into shape.
